Melgamatic 66 Posted March 5, 2012 For reasons I can't explain, I find myself desiring a 44 magnum semi-auto handgun. I have a revolver and several lever guns in 44M, and enjoy them. A long time ago I shot a borrowed Desert Eagle, and it was sorta crummy. It felt "gritty" and didn't operate so well. However, that was before I had a ton of handgun experience, and the owner was the kind of guy who doesn't take care of his guns, so maybe it was just a bad example. So, a) are there any 44M s/a handguns other than Desert Eagles, and b) was my experience accurate, or are the Desert Eagles really nicer than the one I shot? It's been 32 days, so I have the hankering. Thanks, Dave

Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted March 5, 2012 Now in the collector's realm and not true rimmed .44 Mag - there is the .44 Auto Mag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutoMag_(pistol) ...and the Wildey that was also chamgered for the .44 Auto Mag but was more common in .45 Wildey Mag... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildey Bring lots of money and patience. Melgamatic 66 Posted March 8, 2012 OK, I ordered a DE44, which should arrive either Friday or Saturday. Used the forum's FFL request and chose Bullseye Tactical because a) everyone had pretty much the same price, and b) they are the closest participating FFL to me and I've never used them before. I'll post a review as soon as I get to shoot it! TRIVIA QUESTION: What's the difference between a Magnum Research DE44 and DE44W (other than $20). Answer without internet searching (although it's not so easy to find the answer that way, either).
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted March 8, 2012 Don't know anything about the DE's, but is one of those made in the US and the other by IMI in Israel? Just a WAG.
