Heavyopp 167 Posted May 25, 2012 I'm gonna pull out the plasma cutter and make some steel plates this weekend. Is there a standard size round plate that is used for the static steel or speed on steel shoots at OBRPC? I have a bunch of half inch plate just itchin to be shot at. Thanks, Jer

RecessedFilter 222 Posted May 25, 2012 If that's soft steel, it's probably going to start getting dented fairly quickly, depending on what you're shooting at it. Just be careful, once it starts denting you can start having ricochets and splatter come right back at you.
Heavyopp 167 Posted May 25, 2012 It's 1/2" thick mild steel. I'm sure it's not that ar600 stuff. I will pay attention to the surface -- maybe only make 2 to see what's going to happen. Thanks for the warning. Really only planning to shoot it with .22 rimfire - .38 specials with wadcutters and 125 grn flat points - and 45 acp lead flat points - 200 grn. I can stay away from the hardball. Will the 45s be too much for the steel?

Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted May 25, 2012 You should be OK with that ammo. I've fired 200 grain lead SWCs at 726 FPS into mild steel plates and it will bow the edges and do little pock marks but thats it. I wouldnt use it for any more than a couple uses. .22s you can shoot at it all day long. 8mm mauser with steel core will zip straight through 3/8"
