I met him many times but the real question is how did he fit in a Kia. The man was huge.

Bill 'El Wingador' Simmons, former Wing Bowl champion, arrested on cocaine distribution charge Gloucester County Times 06/19/2012 1:21 PM

HARRISON TWP. — Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, famous for winning numerous Wing Bowl Championships, has been charged with first-degree cocaine distribution.

The New Jersey State Police arrested Simmons, 50, of Woodbury Heights, during a vehicle stop in Harrison Township Friday night, said NJSP Lt. Stephen Jones.

The stop was prompted by a month-long investigation conducted by the NJSP and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

Using search warrants, police seized approximately $8,000 worth of cocaine, about $4,000 in cash and the Kia Soul — wrapped in colorful El Wingador graphics —Simmons was driving.

Simmons was lodged in the Gloucester County Jail in Woodbury in default of $100,000 full-cash bail, said Jones.

State police and county detectives executed search warrants at the Woodbury Heights home Simmons owns and the borough residence where he’s been staying, said Jones.

Some cocaine and cash were found in his possession, in the car and in his home, Jones said.

“It is regrettable that Mr. Simmons’ notoriety has taken a negative turn. However, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office works closely with other law enforcement agencies to stop the significant distribution of controlled dangerous substances that is reflected in the charges against him,” said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton in a press release Tuesday.

A former Gateway Regional High School football player, Simmons won his first Wing Bowl crown in 1999 and his last in 2005.

Simmons in January told the Gloucester County Times he was hoping to promote a reality television show called “America’s Biggest Eater.”

Simmons had developed a line of hot wings and sauces bearing the El Wingador name.
