Brass Scrounging at oudoor range

Recommended Posts

I was out shooting a couple of my pistols over the weekend. I set up a series of targets and was practicing moving and shooting.

My Sig has an "energetic" ejection and throws brass upto 25 feet away.

Well after I finished I was only able to find about 1/2 brass that I shot in the weed and gravel.

Any suggestions to improve the recovery rate?

Not sure how feasible this is, but could you like, hang a piece of paper, or somehow put something in the path of the ejection so that it slows them down, and they fall straight down? like a catch or something?

I use one of these, both at the bench and with a tripod when shooting pistol:

You can fab one pretty easily as suggested above. If making your own, I'd also recommend D&Ting it with 1/4-20 threads so you can mount it on a tripod.

I've only seen "brass catchers" as suggested above to catch brass. I've never seen anything placed on the ground at a range with other shooters around. It's not practical and is an accident waiting to happen.

Steel matches at both old bridge and central jersey use the method I describe in the pits but it is like a woven tarp with weights On the 4 corners

I guess it could be nylon window screen I went back and read the first pOst and he said he was moving And shooting I am guessing practicing uspsa in that case nothing is really going to work if he is moving all around just try to remember what points you shot from nd check in the range your gun ejects my range officer has an energetic ejection so I just try to look for a piece of the brass I am shooing and the rest will be in the same area ESP if I am practicing draw and shoot and moving around on the pit alot
