The things you see.......

Recommended Posts

...when it's Sunday and you don't have a license (or a bow). My son and I had our Brittany out today at Black River WMA in Chester. Just giving him some field time in anticipation of upland season. We turn into one of the fields and staring us in the face is a solid 12 point buck. This guy was huge!! He looked at us, we at him and he took off. Damn thing looked like a moose.

I saw this guy Sunday Morning munching on my Butterfly bush. About 20 feet away. He didn't move when I went and got the camera, came back and took his picture. He had two ladies with him but they ran ahead when they saw me.

Well hopefully no over zealous yahoo takes him for a few years and allows him to develop into a trophy.

Yeah, he's not much more than a spike at this point but apparently isn't very fearful of humans so he'll get capped before he gets much bigger.

Don't you hate that? To me it's part of being ethical... let them grow and introduce new bloodlines.... Just because some buck has not learned to be stealth yet doesn't mean he should be shot. I would be embarrassed to shot that animal - Can't imagine the crap I'd take from my buds.

while I agree about letting deer mature Im also one to enjoy venison VERY MUCH.

if im on private land that is managed than I would let that buck walk all day. if im down in the pine barrens during buckweek and the clubs are drivin'...he's coming home with me.

If freezer has more for more venison and its end of the season....he's coming home.

I hunt to enjoy myself and to enjoy the outdoors. If Im able to harvest an animal than even better.

2 seasons ago one of my boys(he was 5 at the time) wanted me to shoot a deer, he made me promise. lol! spike walked in and only deer i saw for 30 minutes. I harvested that animal and my boy has those antlers in his bedroom. he loves em. The meat provided plenty of meals. it may as well have been a 10 pt buck my son was excited.

I could care less what anyone thinks about the headgear(or lack thereof) on an animal I harvest. as long as its legal I see no problem with it.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
