flux for lead

Recommended Posts

You can add a roll of 95/5 solder IIRC to get your alloy correct. More info is available at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/

If I remember correctly, solder is mostly tin, and as other have said, antimony is also used frequently to make lead harder for cast boolits. Different recipes for different hardness needs for each type of boolit.

For ML shooting, pure soft lead is best.

Take the soft lead that you have. Heat to just below 700F (pure lead flows better with some additional heat since you have no tin to assist with flow.)

You can flux with Brownell's Marvelux, sawdust including California Flake Flux, used motor oil, beeswax, parafin wax or anything else that protects the surface of the metal from the air.

Flux is designed to keep the lead in molten state from oxiding.

Have fun.
