installing slant brake on 7.62 Saiga

Recommended Posts

I was looking online and it appears a lot of people do it themselves. They make threading kits online to do it. Otherwise u maybe stuck shipping it off. Call a machine shop a lathe operator should be able to do it no problen u would just need to bust off the front sight post or cut the tip of the post base off and have them thread it

To do it on a lathe you would need to remove the entire barrel from receiver to chuck it up. Use a die and thread alignment tool. Easier to buy a rifle already threaded but I digress :p

i looked @ a Russian Red Saiga converted from Atlantic Firearms. They want $999 for it.

its alittle steep since I can do the conversion for about $200+ less, minus the slant brake & cleaning rod.

Never said the rifle needed to be a Saiga :p

Not saying the rifle is worth the $999, because its most definately NOT, but theres more than $200 of parts there

It has a new $50 gas block, new front sight base $20, $100 of furniture and then the trigger stuff and retainer. (plus the brake and rod you excluded) and of course labor.

The hi-cap PAP with side rail (not junky dust cover rail)

For $20 more than the "russian red classic" you can get yourself a milled receiver. Throw a slant brake on in place of that weird lookin' abortion on the end there and you have yourself a fine rifle

If you really want a saiga based rifle:

These are a boat load of fun and LOUD but sorta drifting here with the theme lol

All of these require modifications to be NJ legal before transfer

Anthony, I would want the new 14x1 brake up against the FSB, not with the 1/2 in gap if I just cut back the shroud. With that gap, it would look too long & funny. I guess the only way for me to get it done the way I want is to cut the barrel back & thread it. Any other suggestions?
