CageFighter 236 Posted November 15, 2012 Anyone know where I can get a barrel threaded & a slant brake installed on a Saiga 7.62x39 conversion? What kinda of PITA is it? It seems that most people DONT do it on their conversions, but I love the look. Suggestions?

Tactical Turtle 11 Posted November 16, 2012 I was looking online and it appears a lot of people do it themselves. They make threading kits online to do it. Otherwise u maybe stuck shipping it off. Call a machine shop a lathe operator should be able to do it no problen u would just need to bust off the front sight post or cut the tip of the post base off and have them thread it
CageFighter 236 Posted November 17, 2012 thanks for the input. can they thread it WITHOUT removing the front sight?
Tactical Turtle 11 Posted November 17, 2012 I've seen guys take a hack saw to the front of the base to take it off and reveal the barrel
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted November 17, 2012 To do it on a lathe you would need to remove the entire barrel from receiver to chuck it up. Use a die and thread alignment tool. Easier to buy a rifle already threaded but I digress http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/7652-barrel-threading-tutorial/
CageFighter 236 Posted November 19, 2012 Easier to buy a rifle already threaded but I digress http://forum.saiga-1...ading-tutorial/ i looked @ a Russian Red Saiga converted from Atlantic Firearms. They want $999 for it. its alittle steep since I can do the conversion for about $200+ less, minus the slant brake & cleaning rod. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/russian-rak-ak47-rifle-red-classic-detail.html?Itemid=
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted November 19, 2012 Never said the rifle needed to be a Saiga Not saying the rifle is worth the $999, because its most definately NOT, but theres more than $200 of parts there It has a new $50 gas block, new front sight base $20, $100 of furniture and then the trigger stuff and retainer. (plus the brake and rod you excluded) and of course labor.
CageFighter 236 Posted November 19, 2012 exactly, Saiga is $450, add $300 in parts, still cheaper by alot. whats the other options with same set-up? im all ears.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted November 19, 2012 The hi-cap PAP with side rail (not junky dust cover rail) http://www.classicfirearms.com/long-guns/papriflews For $20 more than the "russian red classic" you can get yourself a milled receiver. Throw a slant brake on in place of that weird lookin' abortion on the end there and you have yourself a fine rifle http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1663&virtuemart_category_id=23 Polish underfolder http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1429&virtuemart_category_id=23 If you really want a saiga based rifle: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1538&virtuemart_category_id=23 These are a boat load of fun and LOUD but sorta drifting here with the theme lol http://www.jgsales.com/hungarian-amd-65-sa-2000m-ak-47-rifle,-feg-receiver,-tgi-import,-w-side-folding-stock.-p-3115.html All of these require modifications to be NJ legal before transfer

vladtepes 1,060 Posted November 21, 2012 it is a pretty common mod and really not all that difficult..
CageFighter 236 Posted November 21, 2012 Anthony, I would want the new 14x1 brake up against the FSB, not with the 1/2 in gap if I just cut back the shroud. With that gap, it would look too long & funny. I guess the only way for me to get it done the way I want is to cut the barrel back & thread it. Any other suggestions?
