What is leagal barrel legnth for a shotgun in NJ?

Recommended Posts

I am totally new to shotguns - and given I will not be able to get an AR anytine soon I am looking at a shotgun...

Is this legal in NJ:

And how can you tell if it will shoot slugs (self defense in home application - but I have a pet so no scatter shot)?

Thanks,

Pistol grips on a S/A shotgun are a no-no in NJ.

Also, slugs are a poor choice for HD with a shotgun. The overpenetration potential is just too high. Within the ranges encountered within your home, some type of multiple shotshell is best. The pattern will not expand enough that you should have to worry about collateral damage.

You can have a pistol grip on a semi shotgun as long as it doesn't have a removable mag I believe.
