Home video camera system suggestions...

Hi. I'm looking to install a security camera system for my home and would appreciate some recommendations and what to watch out for/avoid.

 

I would need something that can handle the following:

 

1) DVR with at least 6-8 channels

2) Outdoor Cameras: mostly wired, maybe 1-2 wireless for areas I can't wire.

- Most will be mounted on/around roof eave 2-3 stories high.

- Need IR/Night Vision appropriate for the installed height

- Color (except for night where it's only B/W, correct?)

3) Can connect to internet to view cameras throught remote pc or smartphone.

4) Can be hooked up to TV

5) DIY preferred.

 

What would be the min lines of resolution and IR for the cameras. I don't want a grainy picture or too dark at night.

 

Not looking for an expensive top of the line system but not a cheap POS either. More of a good bang for the buck system.

I am using a Videk system. A single VDR can do 8 cameras. All of them are infrared, I am using the standard resolution which is just fine. Call Disco Electronics if you want a price. He is a friend of mine so I am sure the price I paid is less than the typical person would pay. 973-376-3350, in Springfield. I did the install myself. Not sure if wireless cameras are an option from them, but I am sure you could put them on there if you wanted to. I can access the system anywhere I have internet service, or through a smart phone with a free app.
