New gun owner, hopefully next week!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, this post is probably not the most important thing you'll read today but hopefully you do anyway because I'm excited!

Starting about 8 months ago I began the FID process with SSH. After months of bothering them I never received it then came the storm. So for a couple months buying a firearm was on hold. Now where I reside in lakewood I put in my papers and background check almost 6 weeks ago. Btw they are very nice and pretty quick or so I've heard. So I'm expecting them back sometime next week. Today I went to shore and purchased a glock 17 and Remington 870. I cant have them till my FID comes through but they are there and waiting. I went there a while back to rent and they were all very helpful and professional. I could have went to Lawmand or Atlantic to get a discount (medic) but I feel since I'm going to be using shore as my range I'd like to give them my business. Again they were more then helpful today and I left happy. Anyway, I'm very excited that the process I started nearly a year ago seems to be coming to an end. I'm also a very new shooter and gun owner so if anyone wants to meet up and give any pointers, it would be appreciated.

Thank you

Lakewood is very good with FPID and P2P. They are probably swamped like every place else theses days, so it might take longer. Considering the gang infestation there, they are very firearm friendly. I would bet also that JPFO has a large number of members or sympathizers.

Welcome to the Forum. I'm not a big fan of Glocks, but they are fine first guns.

Consider purchasing the Advantage Arms conversion kit and you'll be able to convert you 9mm Glock into .22LR pistol and shoot for much less money.

I know this is a very silly question, but I am going to ask since it seems to be omitted from your original post. You mentioned that you started the process of getting your FID, but I did not see mentioned that you applied for P2P's as well.. (I only ask because you said you bought a Glock). I "assume" that you also applied for the P2P's when you submitted paperwork for the FID? If so, then nevermind.. lol

Congrats on your new purchases. I am also new to all this, even though we've had a revolver for the past 15 years (wife's).. The wife also just bought a Maverick 88 Security shotgun that will be delivered to SS (as our FFL) on Monday, so we should be able to pick that up within the next week and a half once they run the NICS check.. (oh, and I also put my FPID and P2P papers in recently, about a week and a half ago in Howell).. :good:

Hey, thanks all. I am deffinetly joining NRA, not so much for the bumper sticker (lol) but to support. I also looked at safety class and will be attending shortly. I hope lakewood isn't too swamped, they weren't cheap and I really wanna shoot! But again thx all, I look forward to it.

@ dsd1026

Yeah. I put in for a p2p. Just one for now because I knew I wanted to buy a pistol and shotgun and stay with them for a bit although i am very excited about it and can see myself applying for another in the near future. Good luck, I'm not sure how howell is with FID processing but hopefully quick.

    • N.J. Family Man From Quiet Suburbs Speaks Out About Home Invasion By John Petrolino | 1:01 PM | May 03, 2024 John Kabourakis talked about his community and how the location is perfect for an active family that enjoys doing things and staying on the go. Kabourakis then talked about the early morning of February 29, 2024. After hearing a loud noise, Kabourakis retrieved his handgun and went to investigate. Having children in the home is cause to investigate things that go bump in the night, and Kabourakis said he walked down a hallway to a second story landing in his home. While on the landing he said, “I'm looking down into my kitchen area and I see a flashlight moving my kitchen, and all of a sudden a person came into my focus, wearing a hoodie, a mask, gloves, and [was] carrying a flashlight.” Linky thingy: https://bearingarms.com/john-petrolino/2024/05/03/nj-family-man-from-quiet-suburbs-speaks-out-about-home-invasion-n1224765?utm_source=badaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&bcid=00ea90fbf351bbfd29c96affd26f2dca49954a466ec9e3e8139f308bd8a1cb93
    • What's the crime for riding a dirt bike on the street? Most likely a fine, misdemeanor at most. That justifies causing severe bodily injury through use of lethal force by auto?  There is no way to predict that he would have hit anyone, it's more like a 99.9% he wouldn't have hit anyone.  And that was a 2 lane road, not a pedestrian walkway. Hopefully he hires a good lawyer and everyone is held accountable for their actions.
    • Seriously? “Sounds Fishy”? You can’t think of a reason why the cop thought that was going to happen after watching the video? The cops are there after multiple reports/complaints of vehicles in the pedestrian walkway and reports of near misses. The ATV is on a pedestrian walkway where there are not supposed to be any vehicles and is moving at very fast pace. If he couldn’t stop for the police car, what makes you think he could stop in time for a pedestrian. He dynamited the breaks to avoid hitting the car and lost complete control of the ATV. Luckily the mass of the car prevented it from continuing to tumble down the walkway and take out pedestrians like bowling pins. If he had hit the brakes like that to avoid hitting a pedestrian instead of the car, would the ATV not have flipped? What would the now out of control ATV have done to any people in the walkway? Would the first person be hit have enough mass to stop the ATV in its proverbial tracks? I have seen plenty of pedestrians stuck. It is never like the movies. They don’t parkour out of the way of a speeding car - especially when pushing a baby carriage and the vehicle is approaching from the rear in a place where you think you are safe because vehicles are not permitted.
