Rob0115 1,107 Posted February 10, 2013 Does it require a COE or just the P2P? Are the copies marked where they need to be mailed? I know one for me, one for the buyer, not sure about the others. Thanks.
junkmanted 54 Posted February 10, 2013 yes coe and yes copies are labeled to where they go. issuing town PD and State police
Underdog 1,593 Posted February 10, 2013 You will need FID card # of seller (which is one seller's FID card). Buyers should be on pistol permit. You should each have NJ driver licenses, and buyer's address needs to match permit. Seller's address needs to match addresses handwritten in on permit. The seller has (5) days to get the copies to the respective state police and buyer's issuing agent (local state police barracks or local PD department). pjd832 146 Posted February 10, 2013 No Coe for pistol sales ...only valid pistol permit with matching addresses on dl/fid/pp....and as patriot oak said mail off appropriate copies to the agencies listed on the copies within 5 days
lunker 274 Posted February 10, 2013 On P2P form, for private sales fill out bottom left hand corner. Sales through FFL go in bottom center.

M4BGRINGO 139 Posted February 17, 2013 And the stupidity regarding the pistol purchase permits rears it's ugly head again.......... So, you have a handgun for sale, and someone wants to buy it. The person comes to YOUR house, or a gun range, since you can't bring it to THEIR house, to do the transaction. You, the seller, can only hope that the person is legal, even though they have a PPP in-hand, you don't know what has transpired since the permit was issued, do you? You also have no idea when the buyer may have last purchased a handgun. What if it was the day before? You wouldn't know it would you? You have no way to find out either. That is why these permits are a ridiculous waste of time. Handguns should be treated the same as a long gun, do the COE, PLUS, we should be able to run a NICS check prior to signing the form by logging onto the internet and actually checking on the buyer. That would make sense, but this state and our government in general usually lack any type of sense............... So OP, no, you do not use a COE for a handgun transaction. The buyer must have a valid PPP, check the date. The name and address on the PPP must match their DL and FID card, if not, deal is off. It is up to the buyer to make sure they have not purchased another handgun within 30 days, not you. You then have five days to get the yellow and white copies of the PPP to the correct locations. Blue remains with seller, pink goes to the buyer.
Rob0115 1,107 Posted February 17, 2013 Thanks for the detail and it answers my questions on who gets what copy but where does the permit go back to with respect to the state police? When sending to municipality to who's attention do you send it?
