SkiingGunMonkey 10 Posted February 11, 2013 Hey all, I have a bunch of 15/20 pmags that are "pinned"/modified into compliance, but I was really hoping of swapping out the floorplates with optional ranger plates. Not sure how feasible this is or if anyone's done it. I've seen they made slide on ranger loops, but I was really leaning towards the floorplate. They are supposed to be non modifiable to > 15 rounds, but hopefully being able to take the floorplate off doesn't change that. I have 2 from Midwest and the rest from riflegear. Tactical Turtle 11 Posted February 11, 2013 U maybe breaking the law
SkiingGunMonkey 10 Posted February 11, 2013 Even if I somehow repin it? My goal isn't to change the capacity just different plates. I'd never me increasing capacity in doing so, but who knows. This state is crazy...
Tactical Turtle 11 Posted February 11, 2013 Its no longer "permanent" then....
Lalo 13 Posted February 11, 2013 The second you remove the pinned/glued original floorplate and have the parts available to make a non-compliant magazine, you are breaking the law in NJ. The task is definitely doable and rather easy to do on the PMags, but I would not convert them while you are in NJ. Go to a friend's house in PA and perform the work there. Once you're done and have repinned and reglued the ranger plates, bring them back over the border.
BOOMSTICK 6 Posted February 11, 2013 I would'nt attempt it in NJ. I was in the process of saying to go across the bridge to a friend's hous in PA but I see Lalo just suggested the same.
SkiingGunMonkey 10 Posted February 11, 2013 Makes sense, annoying that it has to be that way, but it's not an impossibility for me. Thanks for the info guys.
checko 180 Posted February 11, 2013 Ty at Midwest tells everyone they are not removable. I'd trust his assesment.
Clintoon Eastwood 2 Posted February 11, 2013 Bad boy, tisk tisk tisk!! Cross the border to Easton and sit in the parking lot and do it there. Better safe than sorry. Did you see how tiny that pin is on the floor plate? Plus it's glued. Good luck. Hope you have extras.
NJReloader 0 Posted February 11, 2013 You'd be best served by buying new ranger plate equipped mags from Ty and then selling the mags you currently own. Sent from my reloading bench while wearing Kevlar.
Candide 0 Posted February 11, 2013 Or just do it and be done with it. State police probably wont be breaking down your door anytime soon.

rightisright 3 Posted February 12, 2013 Get some Ranger Plates, Dremel off the lips that slip around the bottom of the mag then use some glue to attach them to the bottom of the mag. I don't know what kind of plastic Pmags are (I would hazard a guess they are ABS). Maybe ask Ty what he uses for glue or epoxy.
pbkid6974 1 Posted February 12, 2013 dont forget they are pinned twice. one pin to keep the block in and one to keep the floor plate on.
pjd832 146 Posted February 12, 2013 The ones sold a while back in the classifieds didn't have the floor plates or bottoms glued... Just a pop rivet limiting to 15 and epoxy over that.... So those aren't legal since bottom not glued?
pbkid6974 1 Posted February 12, 2013 I would say pop rivets are "permanent". You would need outside tools to unpin.
