Kimber Eclipse Custom II

I'm considering getting a Kimber Eclipse Custom II 1911 in .45ACP. Does anyone here have experience with that particular model that they'd care to share. Also, if there's a competing model that is similar in fit, finish and price, I'd be interested to hear about those too. I have a P2P I need to burn up and always wanted a 1911. How is the recoil compared to, let's say, a Glock 22 40 cal?

i have the same model i like it i cant compare to a glock 22 as i dont have one i would suggest getting a wilson compat mag the stock one functions but i like the wilson combat mag a lot better

I love mine. Had it since April, no issues. However the black finish is prone to nicking near the ejector.

I have a eclipse target ll 5" barrel , I just got my range pass . If you want to road test before you buy , PM me let me know . Great gun . I like the recoil on my beretta PX4 Storm better . I will bring both ---- let me know . This way you can show me around , I have only been there once and that was at nite .

Comparing a Glock 22 to a Kimber is like comparing a Ferrari and a Honda Civic. Yes, they both get you to the same place and they both have their purpose, but I know which one I would want to own...

You can't discuss a stainless 1911 and a poly Block in the same paragraph for comparison, no even in terms of gauging recoil IMO. Two very different animals! .45ACP out of a 1911 are match made. A lot of guys will fall all over for a Kimber 1911, but I personally think the standard catalogued ones are overpriced. Custom Shop ones are another matter. I have one in 10mm from the Custom Shop. You don't indicate what the price range they are asking is, so it's hard to pony up alternatives to look for or to just say snag it! I've seen the price tag on them vary as much as $300, yes $300, for the same exact model between vendors.

Thanks for all of the replies, and offers to let me try one, or offering one for sale. NJCK -- I haven't even considered price at this point. All I was looking for was feedback from someone who already owns one.

I own a glock 22 and shot a kimber. I felt the kimber was a little tamer but both are easy to shoot.

I singled on the price because I've seen that Kimber $300 different in NJ shops only 30 minutes apart... Anyway, between the age and popularity of the 1911 platform, you can spend as little as $700 through north of $20K! There are hundreds of considerations in-between and usually the first decision is if you're a purist or not... If you're looking to just give the platform a try, a non-purist Ruger SR1911 is hard to beat and they'll be more widely available with Ruger bringing the line up March 1 and pricing should drop back below $750. A Colt Series 70 Government model isn't bad entry either. There are options, options, and more options. If you're looking a a range around $2500, look at a Brown or Wilson Combat.

I have a pre-owned Eclipse Custom II. It had some nosedive FTF issues when I first gave it a test drive. Prior owner sent it to Kmimber and they did something to fix it, then I bought it. They even replaced the night sights for free. It's been flawless since. It's the prettiest firearm I own, if that's a factor for you.

The 1911 feel is very different than a Glock. The perceived recoil on my M&P .40 is snappier than my Kimber 45.

If you want something more affordable yet still american made look at remington R1911

The kick on a Kimber is nothing compared to a Glock 22. Kimbers are built extremely well and dampen the kick with their recoil reduction system.

Also take a look at the Kimber TLE ii full size. Front strap checkoring, night sights, extended beavertail, etc. One of the best priced Kimbers for the work involved.

 

Sig 1911's are pretty nice as well. I would put them a step below Kimber, but nice guns.

 

Like NJCK said, for the price thr Ruger SR1911 isn't too bad as an entry level piece!
