Incorrect, they are not all constructed the same.

 

The Surefire 123s (as well as a very few other name brands) have a built in circuit breaker that helps to prevent the issues you are describing. This is why they are preferred.

 

maybe not ALL of them, but i recalled reading that surefire streamlight and Duracell all come from the Panasonic plant. And yeah, the main reason i use them is for the built in safety feature, but even most Chinese brands have PTC, quality being the issue..
