Help identifying bayonet and old ammo

Recommended Posts

I was helping my grandfather in his basement yesterday when I came across this bayonet. I have no idea what type of rifle its for. He was in the Army in WW2 and served in Europe. He brought this back with him but can't remember what type of rifle it came from either. I tried it on my K98 and it wouldn't fit over the barrel. Any help is appreciated. Also found this ammo. It is definitely .30-06, anyone know what year it might be. I assume its a stripper clip for a 1903. It has SE 18 3 C on headstamp. It dosent look to be brass cased either.

Looks to me like a German 8mm mauser round, not 30-06

Edit:

Look about halfway down, this supports my theory. Theres a scarce few references to this being german 8mm. Well, its positively german from the 4 hashes on the headstamp anyways. http://www.mcpheeter...06_item_077.htm

If I can identify a third item do I get the bayonet? lol
