Ruger 10/22 mods

Recommended Posts

I picked up a 10/22 last week and the lets make it better disease has all ready set in. First mods going to be the bolt release and buffer bolt, What a crazy design that is, I thought I broke it the other day at the range. If you have any tips please chime in.

Well, first off - throw some volquartsen trigger parts in there and get a nice crisp trigger first off

but the big question is what you want to do with it, resulting in one big important factor.... Weight.

Do you want a bench gun for sitting on a bipod and plinking away at 100 yards? or do you want an fast action gun for games like speed on steel.

i initially set mine up for bench stuff, and it shows... I have the heavy houge over moulded stock on it, and a 920 bull barrel, .. the gun, is very heavy. While it's still good for shooting fast, there are more suitable options for fast transitions.

There are alot of super light weight stocks, carbon fiber stuff, sleeved barrels.. JonF built a few .22 rifles that probably weigh less then a pound.

Just did the auto bolt release+ buffer bolt, That was easy :) just waiting on a vol hammer. Installed the hammer. Cleaned up the over spray in the receiver and polished the bolt lightly. I must say the trigger is sweet and the action is smooth. can't wait for a range trip.

Next steps? A Vq exact edge extractor, and a trigger kit of some sort.

Imo the higher priced Clark kit is good bang for the buck. Beyond that, save the pennies for a complete trigger pack.
