mp123 0 Posted June 28, 2013 So it looks like you don't have to register until January 2014. So I'm going to take my "evil" guns to my summer home and use them at the local range this year. I can't seem to find any info as to how that is going to impact me next year. Looks like the registration form if for residents. Not that I would be stupid enough to register. So I guess it's going to be the same scenario as pistols? In other words a no go zone for non-residents.
Parker 213 Posted June 28, 2013 Residents don't have to register until January of 2014. Anything that fits the "evil" category by their definition is banned. Only residents get a bye until next year for registration. You might be putting yourself at legal peril if you take them into New York. "Evil by characteristic" items have been classified as firearms now, just like handguns. Unless they are registered while in your possession, you are in violation. Since a non-resident cannot register in New York, I think you know where you stand; destination creek - no paddle.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted June 28, 2013 So I'm going to take my "evil" guns to my summer home and use them at the local range this year. Leave them home, or you may be spending more time in NY than you bargained for.
brucin 923 Posted June 28, 2013 I have the same problem. Both the wife and I are new to shooting but really enjoy it. We'be owned property in NY since 1998 but can never bring our handguns there. We are looking for a .22 to bring up there and shoot and are trying to get a Kel Rec su 22. With the standard stock and the threaded barrel welded and a reduced capacity mag we will be good to go. The problem is finding an affordable one.
Parker 213 Posted June 29, 2013 NY's SAFE Act has turned a simple plinker like this into an "assault weapon" by merit of having one or more evil features.

M1152 713 Posted June 29, 2013 slightly OT but this NYSAFE vid just went up in another forum, there are some interesting parallels with NJ
mipafox 438 Posted June 30, 2013 I'd rather carry 7 rounds of .45 in NY than zero rounds of 9mm in jersey. Just sayin'
