Stolen Handguns

Recommended Posts

The "Looking for Grandfather's Guns" thread inspired me to try this route. I believe that it was in 1987 that, while living in Trenton, I fell victim to a burglary in which I lost six handguns (among other things). One of the handguns was subsequently recovered in Wall Township. I believe that I know who perpetrated the burglary and the Wall Twp PD thought they knew who might have them - but there was never enough evidence to obtain search warrants.

I am thinking that with the passage of time, these firearms may have found their way onto the secondary market and may even still be here in NJ, especially eastern NJ along the shore. It's an extremely long shot, but I figured with more people aware the chances may increase, at least a little bit.

Here is a list and any special notations:

  • Ruger Super Blackhawk / .44 Magnum / 7.5" barrel / Serial # 81-58065 / Had Pachmayr stocks on it at time of theft
  • Ruger Single Six / .22 LR, L, S / 9.5" barrel / Serial # 64-58929 / This gun was made in 1976 and like all Rugers produced that year had a rollmark on the barrel that said, "Made in the 200th year of American liberty."
  • Remington XP100 / .308 Winchester / 14" barrel / Serial # B7505235 / For those not familiar, this is a bolt action single shot handgun. It utilized the original brown nylon stock. This was a custom built unlimited silhouette gun and as such had iron sights. It looked very similar to the picture below, although IIRC my front sight was at the muzzle. This was stolen in its hard-side luggage-type case that was green with an IHMSA decal on the outside.   35a0nd2.jpg
  • Smith & Wesson Model 25-5 / .45 Colt / 4" barrel / Serial # N679829 / I believe this had Pachmayr Signature grips on it and RR and WO sights
  • Remington Rand 1911-A1 / .45 ACP / 5" barrel / Serial # 1564086 / This had custom work by Les Baer including a Gold Cup NM barrel w/finger bushing, Bomar lo-mount adjustable rear sight, Videcki trigger

That's it, my sad tale of woe. Bought a safe after that (now have two), but that was locking the barn door after the cows had gone. As I said, a slim chance of anyone running across any of these but stranger things have happened.

These were listed on the federal NCIC and the Trenton PD case number is P7-195-0636. Please contact me or the Trenton PD should a miracle occur.

Adios,

Bob,

I believe you can run the serial numbers through NJSP / Data reduction Unit to see

if the serial numbers have been registered...............

Thanks Jack, I'll look into that.

There is still hope. A friend in Florida had his car stolen about 15 years ago and one of his handguns was under the seat. about 3 or 4 years ago he gets a call from a police dept asking if he still knew the serial number and he did because he keeps a list of all the serial numbers in his safety deposit box. The cops arrested a gang banger who had the gun, after the gang bangers court case the gun was returned to my friend. It was all rusted up but he refurbished it and it looks brand new now

Like others have said there is always hope I am up in NH this week at a seminar andnwhile talking to one of the other guys he was tellingme how he was robbed about 10 years ago. Then out of the blue 3 years later the poilce in mass call him and they had found 3 of his guns in a drug bust. It took a while but once the court case ened he got the guns back.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
