Boots opinions and suggestions wanted :)

Recommended Posts

They have USA made and China made. I buy mine from Sparta Cobbler, he only sells the USA made ones. There's a place in Paramus that has the USA made boots as well. I just hate driving east of Parsippany these days so I don't go down there anymore.

where in paramus ?

What's the union discount?

Mine are going on 5 years need to be replaced. The sole is shot and the leather isn't worth it. Btw, Sparta Cobbler does stock the Chinese ones.

He got me the USA made. And can re sole if necessary. I didn't see the Chinese made in the shop last time it was there.

It's usually 10% but sometimes it's flat dollar amounts. May depend on the store.

Timberland PRO with Anti-fatigue. Great boot for $150. 12-13 hr days are no big deal with these.

I used to ware timberland pro, and they were comfortable. But they wouldn't last a year in my trade. The sole would split in the middle of the boot and leak. The inside of the boot would turn into a sponge. It was horrible, made the redwing switch and never looked back. Same price, more comfortable, lighter, and last twice as long.

Agree 1000%. They are comfortable and great when new. For me it's always the inside heel that wears the fastest. I don't wear them loose or get a size too big, either, but the inside heel area wears so fast for me. I'd love to go American made, like Redwings,  but I can't justify the price. So far my Carolinas are holding up surprisingly very well.

Never had a more uncomfortable boot as Redwing. I'm a 13EE and their wides suck. Tried them twice and no luck.

I've gone through four pair of the Tim Pros. They've all held up at least a year walking on metal grating and climbing ladders. After a year, I get a fresh pair since I get paid for it. I'm sure they'll ruin them sooner or later.

I kept getting tired of timberland discontinuing the model I liked every year. I would always have to find a different model to get used to. That also pissed me off. But I have to say they were comfortable boots.

Yeah, I'm expecting them to drop the endurance pro soon enough. May need to pick up three or four before they go or get totally redesigned into crap.

I've used unionbootpro.com ever since Redwing went Chinese.

Customer service is great, and they have a decent selection of different boot types.

I've spoken with Walter Brown (the owner, I believe) a few times and he's always been helpful.

I'm interested in their boots but I'm likely to get another pair of American Redwings. Being able to try on boots is a huge deal and my old pair are absolutely fantastic.

Union boots are cheap it seems. $150ish plus 27 percent off for Union members.

What's the skinny on logger boots?

My dad had an uninsulated pair of RW loggers and they killed his feet. Gave them to me when I was young and I disliked them as well. Are they considered less comfortable?

I get a $100 footwear allowance every year from my company. Made it easy to afford the red wings but I tried 3 different pairs and all took 2-3 months to break in properly. Once broken in they were comfortable. Plus the fact that you could drop your boots off as often as you want to the redwing store and have them put through the spa treatment. They clean em, oil them up and put on a fresh pair of laces for free. There's no limit on how many times you can do it and if they knew me well enough they have no problem doing it to my timberland pros also.

However, my timberland pros are the most comfortable boots out of the box I've ever worn. Only last about a year but for about $100 they are great. I've worn them for the last 2 years and have been happy

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
