Bully 749 Posted April 2, 2015 I picked up my bow from Targeteers tonight. I had some time today and popped over to grab my bow from Rob tonite. I had called on Tuesday afternoon to make sure the preliminary setup was done (it was, as promised). When I got there Rob was with a customer but asked me to wait and when he finished up he called me over. He then spent over an hour (almost 2, actually) getting me set up with the kisser and peep, shooting and correcting my form. He was incredibly patient and knowledgeable gently coaching me to shoot better. By the end of it all, I felt like I had so gotten my money's worth and am beyond ecstatic that I used a pro-shop to buy a new bow and get set up on it. I'm sure I could have saved money by buying used but then would have had to pay for set up/tuning/range time. I went with the Quest "Forge" single cam set to 28"/56# with Beman Bowhunter arrows and a Quest case. I also grabbed a bag target for the yard. The package came with a rest, quiver, sight, peep/wrist sling. The bow itself seems well made although I'm pretty much talking out my arse on that. It is, however, smooth with what feels like a solid backwall although I have very little to compare it to. It also seems pretty accurate. I definitely took a chance on it as it's a brand new bow from Quest with no reviews on it so far. Thanks to all that gave me advice on my purchase whether it was publicly on the forum or privately via PM. All of it was appreciated. To the naysayers re: Targeteers... Rob is committed to doing good business. If you have a gripe you owe it to yourself, Targeteers and the hunting community as a whole to contact Rob via phone or face to face and go over any gripes you may have instead of bitching from behind the smokescreen of a computer. It's a good shop with competitive pricing and seemingly knowledgeable folks, my past experience not withstanding. Rob has assured me that he has confronted my concerns head on. I believe him. Junior 14 Posted April 2, 2015 Congratulations on the new bow! I'm so torn between buying a new gun or a new bow. Going for my NJ hunting license next weekend and debating on if I even want to take the Bow and Arrow portion.. But it looks like a sweet setup. enjoy! FishNHard 145 Posted April 2, 2015 Topher once you recope from your purchase a bit also look into getting a range finder , ive started using one the last 2 seasons and it really helps knowing your yardage in the stand , also once you get comfortable check out the farmers sportsman club for 3d shoots they are a lot of fun. 222 3 Posted April 2, 2015 I also grabbed a bag target for the yard. Congratulations! I'll bet dollars to donuts you are going to love it. Brick & mortals carry a high cost for shelf space: they wouldn't stock it if they couldn't move it. You may want to check your township's bow discharge ordinance. Most townships have no discharge ordinances, with exceptions only for hunting. Sucks, I know...
DeerSlayer 241 Posted April 2, 2015 Didn't I just see this thread on NJ hunter? Congrats on the new bow, good luck with it.

Definitely something I've considered. Congratulations! I'll bet dollars to donuts you are going to love it. Yep knowing your distance is important. If you're hunting from a stand you need to know the distance of every "deer approach route" before hand and I have even done it with a string before hand. While stalking you're not going to be able to use a range finder, you won't have time nor do you want the extra motion to use it. Yep I have and use a range finder but once I use it from the stand and know my ranges I'm done with it. A better thing is learning to Recognize your distances. Good luck with you bow Lad!! Bully 749 Posted April 6, 2015 So I have gotten behind this bow a bit more in the past few days. I can say that I really do like it. It's respectably quiet and seems to be pretty fast for where it's set. It's pretty light as well. The back wall is solid. It's not "hard" per se, just solid. Let off is very smooth and the "valley" or the place where it lets off is very forgiving, which is good for a newbie like myself. It's also accurate as set up if I do my part. All in all, I'm glad I went to a shop for this, my first. I'm taking my Hunter's Ed bow portion on the 31st of May, I believe. I'm farily confident that I'll give'er hell with this guy and hopefully get my first deer. Thanks all for following along. C

Bully 749 Posted April 8, 2015 Quick update: I bumped the weight on the bow. Took it from mid 50's to most likely the mid 60's. It feels like a new bow. It has really come into it's own. I have read that the bows are designed to shoot their best at max poundage and I can now say that that seems very likely. It has really smoothed out is the best way for me to put it. It's also noticeably faster. In addition, called G5 on Monday. The fletching is contacting the rest it is tearing my arrows up and screwing up the rest. I explained what was happening to the tech and he simply said "No problem, I'll send you a new rest." Just like that. No argument. No crap. He sent it out I believe that day. They don't even want the old one back. That's some serious customer service. I've also "invested" in fletching supplies: a jig, glue, and vanes. I figure I might as well be able to repair them when they go bad. C
Bully 749 Posted April 10, 2015 About a week ago I was cruising around on another site and came across a thread about a guy in PA making custom paracord slings. I sent him a quick PM and he got back to me very quickly. We went over (via text) what colors and size sling I wanted for my new bow. I sent him the money via PayPal and waited. I didn't have to wait long, the sling showed up today. Craftsmanship is very nice. Included is a thick leather attachment for the sling to attach to the bow. Everything is nice and tight and the colors are exactly what I wanted. I am 100% satisfied with the sling and the transaction as a whole. If anyone is interested in a really nice custom piece for their bow (he makes other stuff as well) hit him up at: Slingitcustoms.com Let him know that Christopher from NJ sent you.
