DeerSlayer 241 Posted May 15, 2015 *********UPDATE********* FISHING DERBY POSTPONED Due to the low water level and the dangerous climb down the pond’s bank, the Sussex County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club’s fishing derby scheduled for Saturday May 16th has been postponed. DeerSlayer 241 Posted May 21, 2015 I know there's a few that already happened. In Vernon/Highland Lakes by the firehouse pond they do a derby every year I'm not sure of the dates though. As soon as we have some rain and you don't have to walk down a vertical enbankment we will be doing the sussex federation derby. Wish I could give everyone a date, but it's contingent on mother nature giving us some much needed precipitation. Another federation chapter in south jersey already did theirs as well. Your closer to central jersey correct? I'll keep my eyes open for anything that comes up. I'm pretty sure that Horseshoe lake in Roxbury twp. (Morris county) has a derby for kids as well. Horseshoe lake derby is June 6th. In the morning. http://roxburynj.us/index.aspx?NID=349 I checked the vernon PAL derby was on May 16th. Same day as ours was slated for. The city of Plainfield has one on the 13th of June as well http://www.plainfield.com/recreation-divisions.aspx

Me and one of my friends won it a couple of times. After the tournament was over we would walk down to the pond by Dairy Queen and fish there for a couple of hours. They're the times you relish the memory of when you're older, and you old man isn't there anymore. It's the kind of thing kids really need from their parents, quality time... This is why I have no problems running this one, with the Sussex Federation of Sportsmen’s clubs every year. Always worth my time and effort to make it happen. My lil one's too small to fish - but she will be fishing when she gets old enough.
