Hot Water Boiler Maintenance/Repair Recommendation?

Recommended Posts

Looks like our Hot water boiler is on the fritz.  Pilot light goes out - I heard it kettling.  Think we need to have it flushed out and maybe repaired (heat exchanger or thermostat).. Not sure how much that'll run but does anyone know anyone that works on these things?

Hopefully it can be fixed/resolved in the next couple days - family's coming in for Xmas..... argh - of course it happens now and not while nothing's happening.

Define hot water boiler, is it the hot water boiler for heat, or the water heater?

Usually (on either or) on heat if the heat exchanger goes, you'll need a new boiler. A way to tell if it's bad, look at the bottom of the boiler, if it's leaking water you need a new one. If not than you dont. Same goes for the water heater, if there's water in or on the burner you need a new one.

The popping in a water heater is the sediment heating up and popping meaning the anode rod inside is pretty much washed away. No harm or danger you might just feel a little bit oily.

Thermalcouples always go, once it starts to burn out it won't hold the magnet open in the thermostat and the pilot goes out. When you were in the shower were you getting cold/hot spurts of water? If yes, the thermostat is going

What kind of water heater is it? A.O Smith, Whirlpool, Bradford White?
