al7601 0 Posted January 3, 2017 I have a few 15/30 polymer mags that are brown and I want to paint them black. anyone have any tips like which paint would work best? thanks
Shocker 151 Posted January 3, 2017 I used Brownell Aluma-Hyde on some Pmags (I think it's epoxy paint) which worked "ok" but it comes right off all friction points. There are very few plastic/paint combinations that are very permanent. Can you dye them?
myhatinthering 462 Posted January 3, 2017 you are better off selling them and buying new ones. anything you do will come off
Double Cheese 8 Posted January 3, 2017 I have no experience with this myself, but this thread on the AK Files might be of some interest: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265672&highlight=mag+dye Let us know how you make out.
Purple Patrick 638 Posted January 3, 2017 You could probably dye the polymer this signature exceeds the 15 character capacity count
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 3, 2017 RIT Dye. http://gunmagwarehouse.com/blog/ritdye_Sand_Pmags/
GRIZ 3,369 Posted January 3, 2017 Painting any magazines is a bad idea. Paint chips can interfere with the gun's function. If you must have color coordinated magazines the dye option is better. Never did it don't know about durability. I'd try one magazine before I do them all.
svt3183 14 Posted January 4, 2017 I would try krylon fusion, I've used it in metal AK mags
medved11 71 Posted January 4, 2017 I've rattlecanned a bunch of polymer mags (magpul and Hexmag) with Krylon/Rustoleum and found that spraying them first with an adhesion promoter (e.g., a can of the Dupli-Color stuff that you can get a Pep Boys) helps to make the paint stick better and last longer. It seems to work best if you do very light coats and flash each one with a hair dryer or heat gun (set on low).
al7601 0 Posted January 5, 2017 Just wanted to update everyone. I dyed them black with Rit Dye from Walmart, had them soak for 10 minutes and they came out amazing! You'd never tell they used to be brown. They are circle 21 mags and they were brown. thanks for help everyone.

al7601 0 Posted January 5, 2017 What's the easiest way to post pictures?
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 5, 2017 upload to an image hosting site. I use Imgur and upload there, then copy and paste the BBCode portion into the post here.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 5, 2017 Looks better than brown but it kinda looks almost Plum'ish colored.... do you have any actual black mags to compare it to? Maybe it's just the pictures?
al7601 0 Posted January 5, 2017 I think it may be the flash. when lined up next to a black polymer stock it looks the same. The mags are no where near new and for $2.67 for the dye, I'm happy. I'll examine them in the sunlight and see if I need to dip them again. That'll be the true test
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 5, 2017 Sounds good - glad you found a good solution.
