bbk 188 Posted May 27, 2009 I have a XD-40SC, and while it fits well in my hand, I feel like it could be better. I've considered getting a Hogue sleeve, and modifying it (since XDs have the grip safety), but I figured I could save some money and time (just stop by the local Lowes or HD) to pick up some grip tape... plus, I can get continued use out of it when I eventually get more firearms or if I ever decide to grip tape randomly. My only thing is I've never really had any experience with grip tape and pistols. I do have shooting gloves, but I don't expect to slip those on if I'm faced with a dire situation. I've heard grip tape tends to fray and peel away after some usage. I've heard that it is a bit rough on the hands. Any thing else I should know? Or any myths that should be busted? Thanks ahead of time.
Maksim 1,504 Posted May 27, 2009 I have used the hogue over grip and loved it, made shooting a glock for me bearable, as the the grip otherwise just doesnt fit my hand comfortably. I have used grip tape, on tennis racquets and hockey sticks, but not on handguns, never actually thought of it.... worth a shot, as long as it wont leave residue, worst case, you are out a few bucks. Chad 3 Posted May 27, 2009 Like you said I would think it would hurt your hands after a while but I dont know I never tried it. It does seem to be pretty popular on the XD forums. Like max said if you dont like it you'll only be out a couple'a bucks. This guy did it ... http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/photo-gall ... post378066

A great idea but I'm imagining it can be a little harsh on the hands.
Maksim 1,504 Posted May 27, 2009 thinking more about it, I would probly just get the hogue grip, and cut the back out for the grip safety. Now that I think about it, I think a forum member here, one of the originals, had it for his XD.
oldslabsides 2 Posted May 27, 2009 Check out http://robarguns.com I read about the XD work they do recently. Top notch work. They do a grip texture job for the XD. Reasonable price also. $ 75.00 for the whole grip. You can also just do the frontstrap for 25.00. No tape, it's engraved into the polymer frame. Picture here http://www.robarguns.com/xd.htm Sweeeeeeeet!

oldslabsides 2 Posted May 27, 2009 No, I read about it in G & A I think. I've got so many gun magazines I can't really say for sure. They do it for Glocks also. I'm tempted to get an XD just so I can get that grip treatment. 3 permits on the way. Still waiting.
