Sumdood was being un-safe on the range. Placing his pistol on the shelf at the range with the muzzle pointing left or right instead of downrange between courses of fire. The slide was forward, so you couldn’t tell it was unloaded just by looking at it - so basically while you were shooting, there was a potentially loaded gun in the next port pointing at you. The husband and wife sharing the port were obviously new shooters. They just didn’t know what they didn’t know. Zeke handled it very well. A polite tap to get his attention, a smile and as he demonstrated where the gun should point at all times and the problem was corrected without embarrassing or haranguing the new shooter - which would have possibly turned him off from going to the range, if not the whole world of shooting sports altogether. I think his point was don’t be afraid to help the newbies and baby shooters you may see out there. Do it with a smile and be a helper. Encourage, mentor, teach, lead by example. Don't lecture, scoff, or condescend. Protect the sport by not allowing stupid shit to occur, but don’t be possessive or a tyrant about allowing new folks into the “circle of trust” that is being a Fellow Shooter. Be an ambassador of the sport.

I'm still here @Zeke! I was away and then was busy fighting off a nasty upper respiratory infection---fortunately, not the flu! To the topic at hand, I go to the range on my own more often than with other people. I'm a member at GFH and occasionally shoot at RTSP. In my experience there are usually a few other women at the range (usually 1 to 3), but they have always been with a man. I generally go weekdays, so that may skew my observation. I attended an IDPA training class and enjoyed it, but I've never actively participated in a match. I don't know why. It doesn't intimidate me per se, I guess it just doesn't interest me enough to get me out to compete. I actually enjoy my solo time at the range. I put on my ears, walk into my port, and I can tune out the rest of the world and just concentrate on shooting. It's kind of like my zen moments. Yes, bathrooms are important to me! I will NOT go in a porta-potty----yuck! As a woman of a "certain age" I need access to bathrooms and they have to be clean.

Always keep guns out of battery ( open) pointing downrange when not in use. Revolvers, open cylinder up. Semis, slide locked, ejecting port up. awkard experience last night. Tap on shoulder and gun spin corrected it. For the experienced... treat newbs with Kidd gloves. Be nice when you correct errors. Last thing we want to detour, or scare this rising trend. Smile...

I agree to cleaning it up.

Although I agree, I think a light coat of oil to prevent even more character might be a good idea.

A little oil. I little wipedown, and color it a day. That is an absolutely beautiful pistol. I hope you put a magazine full of low powered rounds thru it just to enjoy it. If you don't, I understand, but I would. But it's truly gorgeous.

One more observation. The females I see at the range tend to be getting younger, which I find interesting. I'm hoping that means that we're attracting more pro-2As at a younger age. One can hope...

I’ve read this like 10 times and I still don’t know what it means.. can you clarify?

I watched it too and thought it was a really good piece. I was particularly impressed by the videographers realization that the government wanting to ban the AR type rifle, (which was the one firearm that he and his wife felt the most comfortable with) was suspicious at best. It's well worth your time to watch it.

Steel wool will cause irreversible damage to wood and metal on firearms. If you are concerned about rust on metal parts use oil and brass/copper wool. I have seen hundreds of rare Mauser K98s and K43 rifles that would have been collectible destroyed by steel wool and sand paper.

You thinking what I’m thinking? Not saying I get paranoid about low posters first posts being about gun laws. There I didn’t say it.

Exactly. I moved to NJ from Ohio and brought guns with me. Most I still have, a few I sold. I did not, nor would I ever even consider registering them. I also inherited firearms from my father and step-father, both were residents of the State of Ohio when they died.

Charter Arms revolvers don't spin, they just lock up after the first shot. Ask me how I know. Or ask @djg0770

I have seen many BCGs fail, however never from a bad firing pin. I did see a fairly experienced, and indignant, SOF Group Sgt have repeated fail to fire - a little investigation revealed that he did not put his BCG back together correctly after cleaning his rifle back in his hotel room the night before. Much finger pointing and laughing followed. Most BCG issues I have seen are bad staking allowing the gas key to come loose. I have also seen a lot of just plain out of spec parts - most commonly a bad cam pin, then bad bolt itself. Also, bolt failure at a rediculously low round count - like sheared bolt lugs at under 2000 rounds. These were commonly on hobby level guns like Stag, Olympic, and Bushmaster. The BCG is the heart of the system - Buy quality partsZ That doesn’t mean you need a $400 Uncle Cheech’s Unobtaonium Coated, low mass, high reliability BCG, but absolutely Mil-spec is a good place to start. Do your research and buy with confidence.
