  1. A muzzle brake is fine on a bolt gun. Is this brake supposed to reduce felt recoil?
  2. The IDPA shooting is on the action range - for those of you unfamiliar with the layout: go in the gates and around to the left, follow the road all the way back. The action range is near the end of the 300 yard range. IDPA will not interfere with regular shooting. This week will be 6 stages - 1 of which has a bunch of steel. It will also be a nice day according to the weatherman.
  3. The guys that run it at SJSC do a great job and will take extra time with new shooters. Bring your gun, mags, 100 rounds of ammo (will be more then enough) holster and mag pouches. You don't need fancy gear, just safe gear and an open mind. Ask questions. Have fun. Be safe.
  4. The law mentions having the gun or the parts to assamble the gun so even if you have an evil upper and/or evil lower you are breaking the law. Will the po-po kick in your door and drag you to Git-Mo; no. But an over-zealous range officer or a traffic stop gone bad could potentially lead to trouble. Risk/benefit is what you have to decide for yourself.
  5. Cape May Court House, 08210. 6-8 inches. 16:22 - still some flurries. I was honestly surprised that a state of emergency was called, usually if it happens in South Jersey and doesn't effect Trenton and north - they don't care. This is the most snow we have received in Cape May County all year. I'd say this specific storm laid more snow then all the other storms this winter combined - in Cape May County that is.
  6. Saturday 3-8-14. 08:30. IDPA. South Jersey Shooting Club. 840? Piney Hollow Road, Winslow Twp NJ. Weather permitting. Like them on Facebook (SJIDPA) I won't make this one but wanted to share with all you fine people, and the non-fine too.
  7. I have one in 40 and enjoy it. I think it's a good idea. The down side is that you have to rack the slide each time or only use double action trigger pulls each time. I am looking at one of the laser guns, like the LaserLyte Trigger Time or, more likely, the SIRT training gun. These allow practice of the fundimentals as well as trigger reset and rapid follow up shots.
  8. I have mags from PK90 and Midwest Px as well as C-Products. Some are 15 rounders, 15/20 and 15/30. I like the 15/30 for tactical type shooting, the others don't fit well inside pouches or pockets. I like the shorter mags for bench shooting, my HBAR's bipod is too short for 15/30's. so it really depends on which type of shooting and which gun. I have not had any problems with any of the magazines. I think too many people put too much emphasis on magazine brands. If it works, I use it. Magazines will not last as long as a quality firearm,
  9. Cybernetic Implants....Just Sayin' Now back on topic: I have a lot of co-workers who have gone to Rothman and are very happy. Whenn It comes time to fix my foot I'll be using Rothman.
  10. With a whopping 4 posts I'd suspect a troll. You carry at Church; meaning you attend Church. Perhaps you should spend more time and energy learning patience, understanding and a little bit of "love thy neighbor". You have the wrong attitude as a firearms owner. You have the wrong attitude as a believer in God. You say you would/have impersonated a federal officer? I would ask the parents if they minded if I answered the kids question. If they gave me permission, I'd get on a knee and told the kid I carry when I'm allowed to protect myself and my family and that there a lot of bad people in the world. If the parents would object I would have still say it carry to protect myself from bad people and leave it at that.
  11. I don't know about the rain water. I change my grip on any rifle to fit the application. I grip close to the mag well and tuck my elbo on my side to create a more stable platform for accurate distance shooting. I stand in a "Boxers stance" for this shooting. I grip mid way or up near the end of the grip for more tactical applications. I can more my arms freely and move between targets quickly if my arm isn't welded to my body. For tactical shooting I stand with my shoulders square to the target.
  12. I'm interested in a group buy. I need more food stock. Maybe Bugsy and I can carpool to pick it up.
  13. My favorite handgun is my Springfield XD Tactical .45ACP.
  14. I like the full lug look so I go with 2.
  15. Used guns are always "Buyer Beware". That being said, I have made some good deals on used guns and I have made a really bad deal (5-1969 Romanian Trainers $200). It's best if you can hold the gun and look it over. If not, having a gunsmith look it over is a great idea. I think you are being very smart by having the gunsmith look at it before you take possession. If he looks it over and says its crap he can send it back and it doesn't cost you a permit. I don't know: if the seller is sending it to the gunsmith for the purpose of selling can the gunsmith send it back to the seller? Is the seller using a FFL to send this out? Is that FFL willing to take it back, has the return been explained and agreed upon? I'd hate to see a POS show up at your FFL and have him stuck with it. All that being said: I hope it's a good gun, if so you have come into a great deal. Best of Luck to Ya Laddy!
  16. If you attached a poll to the thread and got a lot of yes votes the bosses may take notice - for bullpups, revolvers and the freaky combination of both.
  17. I'd be interested in a hat and shirt (provided it comes in my size -3XLT)
  18. I did some looking for myself and chose the NRA Instructor insurance. The other insurance policies didn't cover nearly as much as the NRA. For example; the NRA insurance coveres me while I teach at my home, driving to the range and while at the range. If anyone falls, shoots themselves or crashes on the way to/from the range I'm covered. I'm also covered in case someone takes my class then does something stupid and hurts themselves, someone else or damages property with a firearm - and they choose to sue me stating I didn't teach them correctly. I have an umbrella policy to cover my home and family so if a guest gets hurt at my home and sues I'm covered by the umbrella. So if someone ignores the "no diving" signs and dives into my pool and becomes dead I'm covered. The umbrella doesn't cover instructing or range time but gives partial coverage if someone falls on my property. I was unable to find anything as through as the NRA Insurance. If you find something comparable please tell us. Btw: which coverage do you have as an EMT?
  19. I disagree with the dude in the video. I put my hands where I get a good grip which means the slide does not lock back. I know when I have shot somewhere near a magazine full so when I pull the trigger and the gun doesn't go bang, I drop the mag, insert a new mag and rack the slide. It doesn't matter if the slide is locked back or not. Truthfully if you have the gun up and sights aligned its not easy to tell if the slide is locked back or not. You waste time looking for the slides position that you could otherwise spend just reloading. I have learned, and teach, that you should not do the push-pull technique. Havig your muscles fighting each other is going to lead to quicker fatigue. Relax your arms and hands. You need a strong grip but not a death grip on the pistol.
