  1. No. You have to put it in a "locked container". From NJSP:
  2. I assume you've already tried out a Honda Odyssey? I keep hearing that it is the best car for "big people". Also, read this?: Consumer Reports Picks the Best Cars for Plus-Sized People
  3. ~$0.16 / round shipped, that's a hot deal. Thanks for sharing! I ordered a Flambeau Products Tuff Tainer® with Zerust® Protection Item #400709 ($1.99 plastic box with dividers) for the "filler"
  4. Would those work with 20rd PMAGS instead of 30 rounders, or would the elastic be too long?
  5. Dang, I've been competing at the Somerset IDPA sporadically for over a year but I won't be there this Sunday. Would have liked to have met some more NJGF members. Listen to Moose - get there at least an hour early for the orientation/safety briefing. Do not uncase/holster your firearm until you are shown how and where to do so. As new shooters you won't be required to wear a concealing garment, but if you choose to you can use a vest, or an overshirt or jacket. I typically wear a T shirt tucked into jeans and then a big button-down shirt loosely over that with the front open/unbuttoned for concealment. The match is entirely inside, the walls and floor are concrete and it's not always well heated so you may want a couple of layers to stay warm if necessary. Volunteer to help set up/take down the stages and clean up brass/tape targets in between rounds and you'll make a good impression. Have fun, hopefully I'll see some of you next month.
  6. Very glad to hear this. I think it would benefit all NJ gun owners if a precedent gets established here that the IO is not an assault weapon. If I see that the NRA actually makes a contribution to gun rights in this state then I'll join.
  7. What a clusterfawk, and a stellar example of how bad NJ firearms laws are that they allow for "interpretations" like this. It's also why I never bought an "AK style" - was always worried that there was too much "wiggle" in the law for them. My condolences to any owners affected by this. Start a legal fund to fight this on behalf of IO owners? I'll contribute!
  8. I wouldn't dismiss the option of having a non-NJ compliant upper shipped from the manufacturer to a shop that does gunsmithing, have them perform the work to make it NJ-compliant and then shipping it to you. It's more time, expense and a little more coordination, but it opens up your options to just about any non-NFA upper out there. Get the exact upper, front sight/gas block and muzzle device you want without having to settle.
  9. Have fun, keep us updated and don't hesitate to ask for help.
  10. Huh? The majority of court cases are "public", in that anyone can attend them and watch. Court documents, depositions and transcriptions are usually available to the public also (although at a fee) unless the judge seals records. Most state judiciaries encourage "open" courts. Not sure where you're coming up with this "none of your business" theme.
  11. Thanks, really interested in learning more about this case apart from the "defendant's camp" side.
  12. Damn, here I go again...
  13. I should have it by Thursday (pre-ordered from Amazon) and I'm off work Friday. Giddy-up! 360 gamertag is "DigDouggler", give me a holler if you want to do some multiplayer. Jermz, we should get some zombies going again. You taught me everything in COD:WAW Zombies!
  14. Buddy who lives up in Andover NJ just got a pistol and a rifle - figured we might try to hit one of the PA public shooting ranges for his first time out. The PA range website is here: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=620410&mode=2 Anyone know off the top of their head which range would be closest to Andover, NJ? Any tips for going there, aside from get there early?
  15. Just voted. Wish there had been more libertarian candidates locally.
  16. I was at the East Stroudsburg Wal Mart last weekend. Noticed that in the gun cabinet they had a chart of "state residents that PA dealers can legally sell long guns to". NJ was a "green" state while others like CA and IL were red, which I assume means that the PA Wal Mart will sell you a long gun. Haven't tried it myself though.
  17. NERDS! Err, I mean, impressive display of Star Wars trivia there Krdshrk!
  18. It's a weak and dilute base but you definitely don't want to leave it hanging around on un-protected aluminum:
  19. Caution on simple green: It is a weak base (opposite of acid) and will eat into aluminum. I doubt it would react enough to cause mechanical/structural damage, but it can mess aluminum up cosmetically. Just a heads up in case there is aluminum in the knife somewhere, like in the handle.
  20. Same thing happened to me. Excitement at getting the safe in place quickly tempered by how close to full it was once I put all the ammo and guns in it... Congrats! Next up consider getting a dehumidifier for it if you don't have one already.
  21. Yup, you need to get another couple turn or two of the magazine catch so that when you push the magazine release button with your finger the catch doesn't extend past that raised "circle" that is bisected by the magazine catch slot on the left side of the magazine well, like so: The above is as far out as the catch should go when you press the mag release button with your fingertip. You should not be using the "point" of your finger to push the mag button deep into the channel, just the "fingerprint" part of your finger, so that the mag release button stops flush with the side of the magwell. You may need to push the mag release button in with something longer/narrower than your finger that (like, say, a blunt end of sharpie marker)that will fit inside the magazine release button channel in order to get the clearance necessary for the catch to screw it on a few more turns.
  22. Congrats on persevering through all that red tape. That's determination!
  23. Just read through the thread. Generous offer Shane, much appreciated, but can't justify it right now. Hope it works out well for everyone involved.
