  1. I believe I have over 10,000 rounds of Federal Bulk. (Whenever I see it on sale, I buy it.) It's all I've ever used. My Ruger 10/22, S&W 15-22, and GSG-522 all seem to do fine with it.
  2. Let me tell you, it's a lot more fun now that I've figured out how to hit stuff with it! I believe it was $420 OTD at Mastadon. (List is $423 without tax and NICS.)
  3. I just added an NC Start red dot sight that I got from rrages.com, and holy crap what a difference! For complete details see here: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26793-sighting-in-the-gsg-522/
  4. I thought this and the two comments before it were great! As a relative neophyte shooter, before reading that article I thought that two well-placed COM hits would most likely be enough to stop a threat. What I took from the article is that one needs to keep pumping lead until the threat is neutralized, and that most of the time it will take a lot more than that. Besides, in a real gunfight, I would guess that one can't tell where one's rounds are hitting. I mean it's not like you can look to see where the holes are, like you can with paper.
  5. First of all, thank you gentlemen for your help. I sent a note to George at rrages.com to find out if better sights were available, and he was quite helpful. He suggested I get a rail mount and a red dot sight (NC Star Compact 30mm: http://rrages.com/sight/dmrg130/index.htm). The whole set-up cost less than $100, and only took a few minutes to assemble. I took the GSG up to Cherry Ridge yesterday to sight it in. It took a little patience, but I was able to adjust it so that I was peppering the center of a 12" Shoot N' See target from 50 yards. It wasn't exactly the 1" groups that I see guys shooting with their rifle anchored in a lead sled looking through a scope, but working from a bench, I was quite satisfied with my 6-8" groups, especially considering what I reported in my original post on this thread.
  6. This is from last fall, so please forgive me if it's been posted before. Thought some of you might find it interesting. http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/the-center-mass-myth-and-ending-a-gunfight-triggernometry/
  7. Good info. Thanks for pinning it. Interesting that NJ arbitrarily set our mag limit at 15, considering that 16 and 17 rounds are the standard size for so many companies. Anyone know how they arrived at that number?
  8. Got mine from Meltzer's a few months ago. They don't have the greatest prices, but they are quite knowledgeable and provide good customer service, like tracking down items that are difficult to find.
  9. Do you think the government will issue an emergency edict allowing us to arm ourselves? Yeah, right! It's a lot more likely that they would come around to confiscate our firearms in preparation for an emergency.
  10. Congratulations! Have a great time in Mexico. Remember, seven days of honeymooning make one week. (Say it out aloud.)
  11. I had heard that the range in Paterson was closed, but I understand they are now open under new management. When I called I was told (to the best of my recollection) that there was a $25 annual registration fee, and that range time is $15 an hour if you use their ammo and $20 an hour if you use your own. Is anyone familiar with this place? It's not too far from me, so I'm wondering if it's a nice place to shoot.
  12. The OP has already acknowledged that he was looking for a way to rationalize the purchase of additional handguns. We all tend to act on our emotions, and use logic to explain our actions. If one were acting strictly rationally, I think most of us would agree that acquiring a weapon based on the chance of stumbling onto ammo at an abandoned police station in a world WORL is a bit of a stretch.
  13. Seriously, if something like that happened in NJ we would be totally at the mercy of the BG's.
  14. Hope your marriage survives. I'll be sure to pray for you.
  15. Got mine yesterday. Agreed, somehow the package ends up smaller than usual. In case anyone is interested, got an email from them today indicating that the sale is still going on.
  16. Thanks bulpup. Yeah, I went back to take another look on YouTube (I had looked there awhile back), and edited my original post to include that clip; but you were too quick for me.
  17. Anyone remember the original with Dustin Hoffman from the early 70's? It was about a geeky guy with a hot wife who the bad guys go after. I remember he ultimately defended his wife and home with some nasty shotgun action. Searched for some clips on YouTube, but could not find any, probably due to the extreme violence. Saw a trailer for the re-make. Looks like it's pretty close to the original. Just found a clip. Warning: It's pretty violent, probably R rated. Looks like my memory failed me (once again). The BG's were the ones with the shotguns. Interesting take on home defense. The guy would have been arrested in NJ!
  18. I'm such a sucker for an ammo can that I took the AC deal and added a bunch of the 375's to qualify for the free shipping. I believe I now have enough ammo at my house that if I ever do anything wrong requiring police intervention, the press will describe me as "a gun maniac with a stash of thousands of rounds of ammo." Or pretty much no different from the rest of you.
  19. Greetings from the other side of Route 23, here in Wayne. We're high and dry, but getting around is problematic, due to all the closed roads. Not complaining, as I'm thankful it wasn't worse here, and I haven't gone anywhere the last few days anyway. Great choice on the Glock 34. I just got one a few weeks ago, and as I've noted elsewhere on this forum, I love it. Kind of surprised you're not starting out with the ubiquitous G19. What made you decide on the G34?
  20. Congratulations! What are your plans for it?
  21. Not that it's necessarily relevant, but when they say "boy," are they talking about a seven year-old or a seventeen year-old?
  22. Waiting for this range to open, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas or Cartman waiting for the new Wii to come out. Anyway, it's been a couple of weeks, so I guess it's OK now to ask for an update on the status.
  23. I have no clue what this means, but welcome to the forum from north Jersey.
  24. I went through the same thing recently. (Do a search for some of my other posts expressing my frustration.) I was told by two gun shops that the M&P 9mm Pro is not available in NJ due to the 17 round mags. Not content with that answer, I called S&W, not once, but two or three times, and was told each time that they will not ship it to NJ due to the mag limit. And no, they won't take the mags out and either swap them for 10 round mags or take them out completely. I asked them all that. I suppose one could have it shipped to an out of state FFL, who could swap the mags out, then shipped to an FFL in NJ. I found it easier to get a Glock 34, which has some of the same features I liked about the M&P Pro, including a longer barrel; and I'm getting a full size M&P 9mm. FYI, I'm pretty sure you can get the M&P Pro in .40 S&W or .45 ACP, because the mags are NJ legal.
  25. Yes, but who took her picture?
