  1. If you shop around you could find a Springfield Range Officer new for $750ish, a used one might be found for the $$$ you seek.
  2. Does use really matter, you end up with one for EVERY use in the end anyway.
  3. View the sticky at the top of this forum which includes a link to "so you want to buy an ar-15 huh". May not tell you exactly what to buy with respect to brands/features, but it will surely educate you on why you might select certain features and brands over another.
  4. If you haven't already found m1911.org, it's an incredible resource. The "Tehnical Issues" page (http://www.m1911.org/full_technic.htm) has links to just about anything you would need to truly understand what you are building. Good luck.
  5. If you want to piece together a 1911 that will be a labor (of love?) yourself and take the time (possibly years) to get it running right, you can go with a Fusion Firearms kit or start out with a Caspian frame and buy parts. If you REALLY want to build a NICE 1911, save your small chunks of cash. You can just as easily put it in a drawer as you can spend it on parts. When you have a enough, build one with Jim Garthwaite in PA. http://www.garthwaite.com/services/classes.php
  6. I would just put in for the extension now. Last time I picked up permits I handed one back immediately for an extension.
  7. The clay they've overturned on the rimfire range makes quite a mess of things when it's wet. If it's rained in the past few days, wear boots and drive the pickup so you can put 'em in the back on the way home!
  8. Have shot there, very nice range. Ammo and lane fees higher than I'm willing to pay. Sold a handgun FTF awhile back. Agreed to meet in Hague's parking lot. The guy I was meeting was retired LEO and got there before me and went inside to look around. I guess he got to talking with the clerk and mentioned he wasn't purchasing anything, just waiting to meet someone. When the clerk found out he was meeting someone to transfer a handgun there, the clerk told him he couldn't do that. The clerk then waited outside watching the guy, and when I pulled in and walked over to meet the guy, the clerk walked over and told us we had to leave. It's their property, so that's their call and we did. That's my Hague's experience.
  9. It is 100%. Have been shooting a p226 22lr with 40 and 9 x-change kits for some time. Functions just like a new 40 or 9 with those slides. And it usually works out cheaper than buying the 40 or 9 p226 by itself initially.
  10. I highly recommend starting with a Lee Classic Turret. 45 ACP is a great place to start, as well. I still use mine in conjunction with the progressive I bought after reloading on the turret for 12 months. It's a minimal investment to get started and you won't feel bad about keeping it. I think about selling my turret now and then, then I think of the comparative pennies it cost me relative to everything else, and then find a need for it and so years later it is still here and still used.
  11. As I understand it, NICS checks are good for 30 days from when they are INITIATED. Theoretically, NICS can't go beyond 30 days because then the response would no longer be valid. I really can't see it goiing much beyond where it is now. At 20 days, they can make the argument there is still enough time to pick up. At 26-27 days, they would have no leg to stand on as it may be impossible to complete your pickup before the NICS check expires. My $.02.
  12. I have a special run they did a couple years back called an "Eclipse". 5.5" barrel, came with solid black front sight and adjustable rear. Put a HI-Viz fiber optic on the front. Love the ease of switching colored pipes, especially helpful for indoors vs outdoors (green better indoors, red outdoors I've found). I also bought a rail for the top and have played around with a $50 Sightmark red dot reflex site which was ok, wouldn't call it high end by any means. Like the ability to play with changing reticles and the price was good.

    NICS checks

    Most are calendar days.
  14. Drove a long way for pickup, ty.
  15. Fast pay, good communication.
  16. Shore Shot has one down in Lakewood to rent. Have shot it plenty to know I want one. Have a 226 and a 1911. Only decision for me is which version of the 220 to buy. I am partial to ones with the half beavertail like the scorpion or dark elite. Function of shooting the 1911 platform, I guess. I had a non beavertail 226 and then got one with the beavertail and I like it much better. But I shoot the 220 just fine without the beavertail fwiw. Recoils very comfortably. Only improvement would be to go for the stainless elite which is about 6 ozs heavier in the frame. Have to believe that is a tame little kitty to shoot. That gun just looks too pretty to shoot for me though.
  17. Oops, bought the last ones for now I think. Had 5 in cart but order confirmation only shows 2 purchased and now out of stock.
  18. Open to interpretation. General consensus is to have them sent to a shop to have the work done if you own a lower(s). YMMV.
  19. Yes you can purchase, but you can't be in possession of it at the same time you possess a lower with a pistol grip and detachable magazine because now you have the "evil 3".
  20. Clearly an absolute tragedy. Absolutely preventable. So sad for all involved, having young ones myself, my wife refuses to even talk about this incident. Cannot imagine the pain. I understand this may be a crime based on our laws (leaving a loaded firearm accessible). But is locking up the parent(s) of the 4 year old the right answer? This is something that kid...and parents...is going to have to live with the rest of their lives. Is going parentless/fatherless going to help that? Does that not only further the path of broken familes that plagues this country (amongst many other problems)? Is there not another path of restitution, i.e. - all firearms taken away, community service, speaking engagements, etc., etc.? Is there an opportunity for a lifetime of good than years of a harsh punishment?
  21. Get on some e-mail notifications. I just got delivery from Natchez's for a good shot of BL-C2 that came up in stock not too long ago. Took 2 weeks for shipment/delivery.
  22. I don't know how old your "older" P226 mags are to which you are referring, but I know the same mag works with both a non E2 and an E2 grip for me presently.
