  1. Depending on your needs and the logistics of your planned move, recommend you consider the firearm services provided by Gunsitters in Whippany, N.J. (Google them) and whether those services are of interest to you. For example, you might choose to move all your guns there first. Then retrieve them later after you have moved your household to NJ. They are an FFL so I assume it would be legal for you to transport them there.

    Irma?

I am mostly ready for whatever comes our way. Have been so since after Hurricane Sandy. Generators tested monthly, minimum of 10 gals gas on hand, emergency food(Wise), first aid supplies, flashlights, and two sets of batteries for every flashlight, smoke detector, and co detector in the house, and so on.... If it becomes a threat, I just need to get more gas, food, water, etc. Btw, for those of you with garages that are part of your house, it is advisable to have a means to reinforce your garage door. A breach of your door due to high winds may pose a serious risk to the integrity of your house structure. I originally learned of this from a goverment website. At the time of Hurricane Irene I purchased two 8' lengths of angled aluminum which I bolted vertically to the inside of the door. Made it much more solid. Important to bear in mind that if you do this, the garage will no longer be an emergency exit.
  3. I very recently purchased this torque wrench. I plan to use it this weekend when I mount my scope to my new Ruger Precision Rifle. I am confident I will be happy with this torque wrench. Ironically, I have used ft/lbs torque wrenches for automotive work for the last 40+ years but never owned an inch/lbs one. Better late than never. It will also help if I ever buy an RMR for my Glock 34 MOS.
  4. For replacement parts for old Mossberg rifles, check out Havelin Sales. I don't have the link handy but Google them. I have purchased some parts from them for my 144, including the little red and green buttons as well as a new trigger guard. The original trigger guard pulled away from the stock.
  5. What was the source who told you it is closed and effective when? i was there about two months ago and it was very much open as usual. I believe some years back there was a clay shooting range there (birdshot only) that had been closed and never reopened. Perhaps there is confusion with that. ps the archery range is separate but in the immediate vicinity of the gun range.
  6. As promised, attached are several pics of my new RPR in 223/556 and the Nikon 6-24 scope. Ultimately decided to go with the Nikon Black mount which I have on order from MidwayUSA. (Thank you to those who provided input on mounts, rings, etc.) It will be at least several weeks before I have an opportunity to take it to the range. Will post a range report when I do. In the meantime, I read the manual, familiarized myself with functioning, bolt removal, etc and did an initial cleaning. Next I plan to further familiarize myself with the bolt disassembly/re-assembly process and watch the Techtips videos on the Ruger website. Overall, I am very pleased with the rifle's quality and features. One question for now, any pros/cons on whether one should remove the muzzle brake when cleaning the rifle? Thanks p.s. the scope appears visually distorted due to the ultra wide angle of my GoPro. It's front objective is 50mm (60mm OD). The eyepiece end is smaller.
  7. I will reply with more info later. However, I own a mossberg 144 LSB that I purchased in 1974. Great target shooting rifle. Why are you planning to part with it? I plan to pass mine to my kids.
  8. Pizza Bob, I plan to attend. I will be wearing grey tshirt and beige shorts. -Art
  9. To clarify, I mentioned Aiken with regards to the unjust manner in which the judicial system treated him in the court room(e.g. Rules of evidence, etc). The details of which are expressed in his book. No need to be critical of one another.
  10. Received a call that my RPR is in. Plan to pick it up tomorrow. Also just now ordered the Nikon scope(#16423) from Optics Planet. Free 2-Day Air shipping. Once I have the rifle and scope, will decide on the scope mount. And yes, will post pics. Not sure when I will get to the range with it as I have some upcoming business travel.
  11. Why? Because a morally corrupt prosecutor and judge would gladly send you to state prison for the slightest transgression. Read "Under the Blue Tent Sky" by Brian Aitken.
  12. Pizza Bob, great idea. I would love to join you folks. However, not sure I will make this week. I am about 50 miles away.
  13. If you and your neighbor live in close proximity, you should be fine. I.e one of you would pick up the other on the way to the range. In contrast, if you are further apart, I would not risk it being deemed an unreasonable deviation. Refer to the Attorney General's guidance published last year. (Sorry, I do not have the link handy.)
  14. Similar here. With Murphdoom(catchy phrase, btw) and approaching retirement in mind, I have just ordered a new rifle and applied for three more P2Ps. Basically accelerating all my future planned purchases of firearms and associated accessories and supplies. Getting it all out of the way now as I may not be able to afford these purchases later.
  15. Since re-invigorating my interest in firearms and 2A four years ago, I have joined and been routinely donating to NRA(Patriot Life member), SAF, ANJRPC, and NJ2AS. I view them, for the most part, as organizations whose missions complement each other in the overall fight for our rights. While listening to Dave on the G4H podcast on Sunday, I also joined CNJFO.
  16. Full30.com is one such site that gun channels have embraced as an alternative to Youtube. Hickok45 among them.
  17. Thanks for the feedback so far. Will hold off on the unipod for sure.(I do own airsoft pellets and old socks.) The twist in the 223/556 RPR is 1:7. (Per the Ruger catalog p89 & 90).
  18. Medved11, Very timely post. I have been wanting to purchase a 223/556 non-semiautomatic for some time. My short list was the RPR, Mossberg MVP LR, and Troy Pump Action Rifle. Yesterday, I called my dealer (Jeff at Garden State Shooting Center) and ordered the RPR (Model#18019 223/556). I hope to have it within a week or two. I am a novice at precision shooting. However really enjoy outdoor bench shooting. Am very encouraged by your results so far (0.6-1.0 MOA). I anticipate shooting mostly at 100 yards, at least in the near term. Perhaps 200-300 in the future. - I do not reload so will be using only factory ammo. I did not have any 223/556 ammo on hand so ordered a variety to test out once the rifle arrives. Last week I bought a small amount of each of the following (from MidwayUSA and Cabelas). Once I ascertain what the rifle shoots best, will then purchase more of that particular ammo. Appreciate any feedback on these ammo choices or suggestions. 223-Hornady Black #80234 62 grain FMJ 223-Hornady Black #80267 75 grain BTHP 556-Hornady Black #81263 62 grain FMJ 556-Hornady Black #81296 75 grain Interlock HD 223-Hornady Match #80269 73 grain ELD Match 223-Norma Match TAC-223 55 grain FMJ #20157442/15-038/2567.3266 223-Norma Sierra MatchKing HPBT TAC-223 77 grain #10157502 Also picked up some Aguila 223 and 556 to use as range ammo. I assume it will not be as accurate as some of the above but will try it and see. My wishlist of accessories is as follows: (Feedback and suggestions welcome). Nikon BLACK X1000 Rifle Scope, 6-24x50 X-MOA Nikon BLACK 1-Piece Cantilever Scope Mount(#16403). (Cantilever version needed for proper eye offset.?) Harris HBRMS Bipod. A unipod for the rear??? Need to research this more. And yes, all the above is going to really stress my budget. However, I plan to buy once, cry once.
  19. Thanks. I hope to purchase it in the next couple of weeks. Will post when I do. In the meantime have started researching scopes, bipods, ammo, etc.
  20. Lambo, what caliber is your RPR? I am seriously considering buying one in 556/223. Would also appreciate any other impressions you may have regarding the RPR. Thanks
  21. I want to express my appreciation to Joe at S&T for an excellent class last month. Aside from the various concealed carry permit classes I have had, this was my first dedicated handgun training class. It included various draw from holster and shooting drills throughout the day. The quality of the training was excellent and it was a rewarding experience for me. I hope to take his Carbine class in the fall.
  22. AVG, I read your post with great interest, having cc'd for the first time myself earlier this year. Thank you for the detailed writeup of your ccw experience.
  23. As best as I can recall, I did a bunch of online research and watched many You-Tube videos. Narrowed it down to either a 590 or an 870. Ultimately decided to go with the Mossberg. Prior to purchase, I had not held nor fired a shotgun in 35 years! Was concerned about recoil but took things slowly the first time to the range with it. A 12 ga is defintely a beast to shoot depending on the ammo you choose. Always brings a smile to my face. (Btw, I am 64 yo.)
  24. Stu and Sandy, A big thank you from me as well. Was a great class and and was very instructive. I appreciate all the hard work you both did to prepare for and conduct the class. regards, Art
