  1. Is there any interest in a class on Nov 12? Let me know and I'll set it up.
  2. My first .45 was a Springfield XD Tactical (just their name for the 5" barrel version). I added a PRP trigger kit and an extended slide catch and it was the gun I used to get to CDP Expert in IDPA. I also have a S&W 1911. Due to unfortunate circumstances I was not able to use it a year ago so I used a borrowed Kimber 1911 and shot my best IDPA classifier yet (way better than my time in any division, not just CDP) I have just acquired a Springfield XDm 5.25 in .45 also with a PRP trigger. We'll see how I do with that after I stop getting so keen to shoot my revolver.
  3. I'll check my calendar and see what I can fit in.
  4. To be honest, I'm not sure. I think it's impossible to tell. I think probably not too much on the basis that my fastest ever IDPA classifier time was done with a 1911. It's not a reliable indicator though because I suck at the classifier.
  5. This is often true, but for my first attempt at 3 gun I was using my XD-45 and I was the only person on my squad that turned the pistol spinner with 1 shot. [emoji6]
  6. I have said this before and it's still just as true as it ever was. Population density has nothing to do with how many people there are in a given area. It is a description of how dense people have to be to swallow this bullshit and vote the same lying bastards back in for more.
  7. Talk with Sgt. Hollar. He told me he talked with the FIU in Trenton and explained that their delays were making him look bad. This was not long after the EO180 orders were issued. I hope they kept it up.
  8. My last set of permits from the Augusta NJSP barracks was exactly 30 days from the application submitted to the date on the permits. It only took 3 days for them to ship from Trenton to being in my hand after that. This was in July.
  9. I have been using Safariland ALS level I in IDPA for years. The retention is fine for USPSA as well. The main advantage to me is that once the button has been pressed there is zero friction when drawing the pistol. The down side is the front of the holster is much higher than other designs so your draw stroke is longer and had to come higher to clear the holster. I tried one for a 1911 and didn't like it. The button was set too far to the left to make room for the manual safety and the economics just didn't work for me. I got a Bladetech for my 1911 after that. This year I discovered the Safariland GLS holsters. There are just a few holsters that fit multiple guns. They have some retention but are not classified as level I as far as LEO goes. I have one holster that fits my Glock 35, my 1911 and my CZ75B. The button to deactivate the lock is pressed by the top of your middle finger as you take a grip on your gun and then there is the same zero friction draw as an ALS. The front of the holster is cut to the bottom of the ejection port on the Glock so the long draw is no longer necessary. One disadvantage of the GLS I have found is that people with slender fingers find it harder to reliably deactivate the lock. I have had no issues myself.
  10. I have the S&W and I like it a lot. I haven't shot the Sig or know too much about it. Both have an external extractor which turns off some purists. I did find the ambi safety on mine to be too wide and inhibited my thumb reaching the Wilson Combat extended slide catch I fitted. Because of that I also installed a Wilson Combat safety which matches the width of the slide catch and works very well. I also added the most aggressive VZ grips and a Dawson ICE magwell. It also got a bit of a write up here https://m.facebook.com/groups/75002404412?view=permalink&id=10154561207329413
  11. If the usual script is being used, the LEO will have asked where you're going and you should have said "home". So long as the handguns are properly stored, unloaded, either in the trunk or otherwise cased, you are already covered by an exemption.
  12. 14th, 13th, even 3rd or 2nd, but OGAM does not come into play for your 1st handgun. [emoji1]
  13. It's easy. 1. Measure the depth of the dovetail and the height of the bottom part of the sight that fits in the dovetail. If the sight is taller than the slot, sand a little off the bottom until it is a couple of thousandths shorter than the dovetail. 2. Test fit the sight. It will be too big. 3. Using a triangular file (ideal if you have one with a safe side) to take a little material from one of the angled surfaces of the sight. Keep it parallel to the original cut of the sight. 4. Test fit again. 5. Repeat 3 & 4 until it fits snugly. 6. Remove sight and refit with loktite. 7. Center sight using calipers. 8. Tighten grub screw if there is one with loktite. I don't usually glue a rear sight in just in case I need to drift it one way or another but I go really slowly with removing material and the sight is very unlikely to move as it fits in the dovetail so tightly. Front sights get glue.
  14. I think you need to just let them deal with what has to be a sudden increase in applications. They seem to be a very professional team and are issuing permits. Repeatedly calling them is not going to speed anything up for anybody.
  15. If she hasn't ordered them already get the Dawson's. They give you all the tools you need and if you buy one of their sets with the recommended height front sight they will keep sending you front sights if it doesn't zero with the recommended height. For a Glock I really like their charger rear sight as it gives you a vertical surface to rack the gun one handed if you need to without risking the tiny screw that holds in the front sight. The best description of stock Glock sights I have ever heard is "dovetail protectors" lol
  16. Buy a front sight from Dawson and they give you a tool. I had a couple laying around until people borrowed then and didn't return them. I'm down to my last one now.
  17. Ok. I'm scratching this date and will schedule another one before the cold weather sets in.
  18. I got mine in the mail today. I sent a copy of my UT permit and my green card as I'm not a U.S. Citizen.
  19. I realize this is Labor Day weekend. Is there any interest at all? Please let me know if the date is a showstopper as I'll cancel it if it is. Thanks, Stu.
  20. I second the MTAC. I can completely conceal my Glock 35 using this holster and so long as I get it in the right position I can sit in the car comfortably for hours - not that drawing from a 4 o'clock IWB is going to work very well in a truck seat. It snugs in nice and tight so a loose shirt covers it easily and the shirt didn't get caught up on the gun to print very much. One thing to look for with a kydex/leather IWB holster is that the kydex is firmly fixed to the leather to maintain the stand-off otherwise getting the gun in the holster can be difficult/dangerous. There are some holsters that have both the front and rear floating on tensioning screws that will allow the holster to collapse without the gun in it due to pressure from your belt. With the grip texture of the gen 4 Glock it's necessary to wear an undershirt as it will rub the skin raw otherwise.
  21. A happy tale for once... I submitted the forms for 3 pistol permits to NJSP at the Augusta Barracks on June 13 I had already done the online background check and I got a call from Sgt. Hollar when he got my forms - he's a good guy. Permits were dated July 12 and I had them in hand on July 15 so EO180 does seem to have had at least one good impact.
  22. I have the AP Custom carbon fiber tube. Standard barrel nut but seems to be discontinued https://www.midwayusa.com/product/3139375230/ap-customs-tactical-free-float-tube-handguard-ar-15-carbon-fiber-black
  23. Not without the legislature changing the law. There is no provision for NJ to honour any other permit than NJ's own.
  24. Eventbrite charge a fee for using their site plus they have a credit card processing fee.
