  1. I bought the air soft gun in my profile pic to practice while waiting for my first permit but it made my shooting worse. The trigger pull is nothing like that of a real gun and ended up ingraining a jerky trigger pull. While not a cheap solution, I urge you to invest in a private shooting class or two. You can spend 5 hours a day dry firing, or even at the range for that matter, but until you know what to practice, at best you're wasting time, or at worst ingraining bad habits.
  2. If you keep an eye out on gunbroker, you'll occassionally run into OEM 15-round mags and I've gotten a couple there. Pro Mag makes a 15 round mag, but from what I understand from reviews, they're malfunction prone.
  3. Have her wear a shoulder pad like a Caldwell Field Shield. Makes 3" shells recoil lighter than an AR.
  4. Mag dumps are one thing, but unless you're shooting out lightbulbs, I think it's BS to not be able to do controlled rapid fire. If I ever have to use a firearm in a self defense situation, I suspect it won't be slow fire. But as you say, their range, their rules. Just keep in mind that Gun for Hire won't hassle you as long as you're being safe about it and your shots are landing where they're supposed to.
  5. I agree. Msrp for a conversion kit is $400, while a brand new gun will be around $500. But if you wait for a 20% sale, like what was just announced today, you can get it for $320 which it'll start to make more sense. I plan on calling later to see if they'll sell the kit with med grip replaced with a small grip.
  6. Reading this thread is like going back in a time machine, lol. My how things have changed in a few short years. As an FYI for those that are in the situation I was, I encourage you to go to somewhere like RTSP where you can rent a bunch of guns for a single gun rental fee. The following were some of my experiences: XD9 - This ended up being my first purchase. Grip is short finger friendly and I'd been planning to put in a springer precision after-market trigger which would 1) move the trigger farther back, making it even easier to reach and 2) remove the pre-travel from the trigger. But I never bothered as I've since found I prefer a grip with more aggressive stippling. Sig P229 with E2 grip and reduced reach trigger - The E2 grip is very important because Sigs with regular grips will be way too big. The bonus with the Sig is that the slide release is farther back compared to most guns and makes it easy to reach if you have short thumbs without having to shift your grip. I can barely tell the difference now, but newbies that I bring shooting tell me that this has the least recoil in comparison to all of my polymer guns and the most fun to shoot. Probably due to the metal frame. HK VP9 (P30 will probably be the same) - This works extremely well due to the removable backstrap and side panels. Because I have short fingers, but medium palms, medium left panel combined with small backstrap and small right panel feels awesome (I'm right handed). Just in terms of hand feel, this is probably my favorite. I don't shoot it much for other reasons. But if they ever come out with a VP9SK, I'd be all over it. PPQ - Works okay with the smallest backstrap installed. But if you're a newbie and don't have a proper grip, you might find it a bit more muzzle flip in comparison to the others. I think again, I need more aggressive stippling. Granulate talon grips work great for helping to keep control, but make the grip ever so slightly larger. Also scrapes the hell out of your side if have the opportunity to carry IWB in America. More recently I've become a fan of the P320 platform and mostly shoot a p320 subcompact with a size small grip nowadays. Plan on eventually getting a compact conversion kit. Hope all this helps
  7. Actually, reading OPs situation, I think it's debatable as to whether he can use a UT or FL permit for car carry. He'd have to argue that he isn't a PA resident despite having his name on a PA lease. Conversely, I wonder if that lease would be enough to get him a PA resident ltcf. I think it's enough for him to buy handguns in PA.
  8. I hate to complicate things but you also can't OC without an ltcf if within 1000 ft of school zone (you'd be surprised how many school zones there might be in a given town) or if the governor has declared a state of emergency. For the latter, go to pema.pa.gov and look under Governors Proclamations. I mention this because a state of emergency was declared due to an impending snow storm in January, but not formally lifted until late March. OC without an ltcf during that entire time was illegal.
  9. I don't care if he was a member of an ISIS cell scheduled to murder everyone in Grand Central station the following day. Possession of an airsoft/BB gun, so long as it isn't be used to commit a crime, shouldn't be deserving of prison time.
  10. FWIW, the Dick's in Wilmington DE honors expired 10$ off $50+ coupons. I wanted to get an identical wagon, it was on sale at the time for $50 on their website, but priced at $60 in the store. I complained to an associate, he told me to just search on my phone for an expired coupon and present it (and it was accepted without issue).
  11. For your Mossberg, get a longer barrel so you can try other activities like shooting clays or hunting (turkey season is coming up). The longer barrel will help with recoil but something like a Caldwell Field Shield will make it feel like you're shooting .22lr.
  12. The last time I was pulled over, not only was I asked where I was going and coming from (it was around midnight-1am, not sure if that contributed), but also if there were any bombs, grenades, or explosives in the car. He asked in a routine sort of way, but I had to muster up an enormous amount of self control to not give a smart ass answer.
  13. I thought it was still legal to buy on someone's behalf if it's a gift. The issue with the ex-cop and father-in-law is that the father-in-law had reimbursed the ex-cop and there was proof in the form of a deposited personal check.
  14. Do you find the feel of Lawman 9mm 124gr FMJ to be similar to the 9mm 124gr +P hollowpoint? Speer advertises Lawman as a training alternative but I was wondering if that's truly the case since Lawman is regular pressure and the Gold Dot is +P.
  15. In terms of shield vs xds, it's all about personal preference. I didn't care for the xds because the grip felt blocky like a glock, and the beavertail kept digging into the base of my thumb. I do find shield triggers to be inconsistent from gun to gun. There seems to be a common issue with the striker block creating grit in the trigger. This was present in the shield I bought, and an Apex Ultimate Striker Block kit fixed it beautifully. I probably should have just done the full Apex trigger... In terms of double vs single stack, I ask myself, what's the smallest gun I'd be comfortable with if I were sitting in a diner with my family and some @sshole psycho walks in the front door with an AK yelling "allahu akbar'. For me, it's a double stack, specifically a Sig Sauer P320 subcompact. For me it shoots almost just like a full size gun (I can get a half pinky on the grip with flush mags), 12+1 capacity, and I don't feel like I'm giving up much in terms of accuracy given the longer sight radius. I also considered an M&P9C, Glock 19 and HK P2000, but I think I'm happy with the P320SC for now. Since I've only recently started carrying on a regular basis (winter), I guess I'll see if I'm still gung ho about carrying a double stack come summer time. When by myself, I will be more likely to carry the shield.
  16. Maybe I'm missing something, but you asked the question whether it's legal per NJ state law for range employees to carry, but you're responding to bdjszy1's comment with RTSP rules. RTSP can of course set rules more strict than NJ state law. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect the rules were made with the idea that no one can legally walk into the store while carrying a loaded firearm and would be different if NJ were a free state. A couple years back I made the suggestion at GFH that I'd prefer if their range officers were armed. When I'm shooting in a port, I'm in my own little world. My view is obstructed by the port walls and the sound of gunfire is of course not unusual. I'd feel a lot better if there if the ROs were armed while watching my back.
  17. I'm planning on a suppressed SBR in 300blk but still haven't figured what I'm going to do about the trust. CLEO will do sign-off, it seems the trust is faster and I won't have to bother with photos/prints (for now). I prepaid for a $59 trust through 199trust.com, but I plan for it to be a primary HD weapon. I'm getting a bit worried that should I use it in such a situation, a prosecutor is going to go through the trust with a fine tooth comb trying to open me up for Federal charges or something. But I'm finding that a certain well-regarded firearm attorney is charging 10x more in price. $200 for SBR stamp, $200 for suppressor stamp, $900 for suppressor, $600 for trust. Freedom is a lot more expensive than I thought! And I won 't even get started on full auto...
  18. Now that I think of it, Clifton asks references to provide their employer and employer phone #. In my case no employers (mine nor references) were contacted.
  19. I don't know which PD but I remember someone having the same issue after a reference mentioned allergies as an illness. They needed a note from a doctor indicating that the allergies wouldn't be an issue.
  20. It's been a while since I stepped foot in Heritage Guild Easton, but they had signs in their mag section saying that they would card people buying mags in excess of 15 rounds.
  21. I recall Anthony mentioning that his NJ CCW is restricted, i.e. valid in the course of running his business, or something to that effect. Having said that, I'm stunned that people are mentioning him and anti-gun in the same sentence. Hope all of you talking sh#! about him have also testified before NJ state legislative committees, were active in the Sweeney recall, and donated heavily to pro-gun causes...
  22. Response seems to vary by FFL. I had this question a few years ago and two out of three FFLs I talked to had no problem transferring me a lower with an adjustable stock (I guess 3 of 4 if you include PK90), but one insisted it was illegal. I'm curious as to the legalities of transporting a lower, aside from exempted travel. OfcrFek, while I see the point you're trying to make, I don't think it's the same since full-auto parts are federally regulated separately from the lower.
  23. PK90 has pmags that can be disassembled: http://www.colddeadhands.com/accessories.html I hate using pinned mags, but mainly it's a mental thing. Everytime I'm cleaning the gun/mags I'm being reminded of NJ being a f@#$ed up state and that I can't be trusted with a mag that disassembles.
  24. My understanding is that you might need some lead time to schedule fingerprinting unless your instructor happens to offer that service on premise.
