  1. Congrats! Definitely post pics when you get it.
  2. He is in the unique position of being able to actually try and do what he wants since he's no longer angling for the next political gig. I wonder what can be done to motivate those with moderate 2A views to vote favorably these issues? 20 min free range time with an "I voted" sticker? I think many moderates would be surprised that California is lax in comparison.
  3. There's more to the aftermarket consideration than just what you might want to "fix" in a gun. Just take holsters for example. You can very easily get a holster for every size and iteration of glocks from most big and small holster manufacturers. There are even ready to ship holsters available that will accommodate glocks with dumb aftermarket accessories. You might also have 10 different buddies who will let you physically test out their glock holsters so you aren't just relying on others' opinions of holsters. This is just one of many factors I consider when buying new guns. You don't have to consider all of the same factors.
  4. After doing a little research I want that sig now. Been waiting since late Nov for the FPID though. Maybe I'll get the sig when I move someday..
  5. I'm a big fan of aftermarket availability, which the glock wins without any debate. With the govt pickup of the sig, a lot more aftermarket may be in the near future. I personally like M&P, but I only picked it over the 19 due to the whole American factor. All the performance center versions that I have shot were worth the extra money. I am strongly considering a new 2.0 as well.
  6. I'm a huge SW die hard... But for the first pistol (and especially considering you can borrow the compact any time you want), I'd suggest a glock 9mm like the glock 17 or 19. You will like it and there are tons of after market and third party accessories that are both available and affordable. Next, you'll want a 22 pistol because it is cheap. Then a 357 because it also shoots 38 and having the versatility seems must have. Then you'll want an AR because the next president could put an end to those. 5.56 is expensive so better pick up a 10/22 so you stay out at the range longer... And on and on it goes lol. Don't overthink it. Rent guns, borrow guns, but definitely start with the glock. Edit: if you really want to go American, give a long look to the new M&P 2.0. No more watching YouTube step by step videos by Apex.
  7. I like the ports but nothing special. Get the 2.0 for the trigger. It makes a huge difference in the CORE and shield pro.
  8. I much prefer the shield, and last I checked, the performance center shield is about the same price as the g43. At one point it was like $365 on Bud's. There is a big difference with the PC shield. Forget about the porting (though short story I subjectively think there is a positive difference), I've been thinking about putting the fiber optic sights on all my pistols. They are that good. You'll find nothing but extreme satisfaction on the triggers online. After a few hundred rounds, I went out and bought the apex kit on my full sized M&P to make it similar. I think over a million shields have been sold so you probably know someone who will let you shoot it yourself. For the record, I have also put a few hundred through my dad's g43 so I am directly comparing the two.
  9. The entire Bob Lee Swagger "Shooter" series is great. I even enjoyed the books about Earl Swagger and Ray Cruz. On the last book now.
  10. My understanding is there is (was?) a federal law in place that stated if you buy a gun as a non resident of a state, then you must transfer to FFL in the state of your residence.
  11. I'm not a NJ geography expert, but I've had great experiences with McLaughlin's in Englishtown.
  12. Whoever played the jazzy version of the anthem at the Knicks-Cavs game tonight won the worst anthem ever contest. Seriously, all other pretenders go home because these guys won by a landslide. It was worse than any anthem in which the singer forgot the words. Video isn't up yet, but google it in a few days. I'm sure the all-knowing comments section will validate my opinion.
  13. I use Trupanion, but it is key to start your dog early for most insurances. Likely too late for your dog's age and preexisting conditions. As far as whether insurances pay, there is always someone on the wrong side of every statistic. And honestly, insurance isn't something that I try to "win" on. I have it for cases like what you describe, and I don't have a generous surgeon-vet-friend for that case if it ever occurs. Glad your pup is doing well post surgery.
  14. Take a look at the Marlin XT series. They come in mag or tube and you can get them in 22lr/m or 17hmr. A lot of the models have heavy barrels and the price is around $200, which leaves plenty of money for a solid piece of glass. I've been looking hard at the XT-VR.
  15. I've been tempted 10+ times and Amazon keeps showing it to me. Only a matter of time really.
  16. I appreciate all of your help and smokin's second paragraph had me lol at work. Doing a quick search on tail end of shift, does the mass matter in this oldie? Seeing everything from ~200-400 grain in smokeless.
  17. I did a quick search and didn't see anything recent on this. My father has a trapdoor that he's never shot. He bought it years ago from a friend who fired it when he first obtained it. He's recently found the blade sight and is now looking to shoot a few out of it before he hangs it up. Anyone know where he can buy 45-70? I've seen a few dead links on the trapdoor website, and there's a few places that have some variety of 45-70, but we're not sure what's appropriate and don't know the lingo for it. Any help would be appreciated. I'll post a few pics while I'm in NC for Xmas.
  18. I haven't checked out the 625 and what it comes with, but I do like the trigger on the PC shield and love the PC 686 a lot as well. They've been worth the money to me so far.
  19. Edited on Dec 8 with some additional info. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). FID 2. Police Department where you applied. Weehawken 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Maria in the records bureau. The phone number for this office is 201-319-6099 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. pending, restarting Nov 30, 2016 after a week (explained below). A little under 4 months. 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). Driver's license with current address on it. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.). Turned in my form previously, but had to go back in due to my driver's license not having a new address (moved to a different unit in the same complex). NJ no longer does the green sticker, and the officer said there would be difficulties if my driver's license didn't have the new address. So I went to the DMV and got a duplicate card for the new address for $11 and went back to the police station today. I was told that the hold up is generally the mental health form as it can take up to 4 weeks for them to receive that info. The office to drop off this form is on the bottom left of the Weehawken police station. You walk up a side drive-way and there's a sign that says "Records" with "Records Bureau" on the door. Update Jan 10, 2017 Called today. My application is now at the detectives dept, and I was told it has been there a couple weeks. Unfortunately, I am at the bottom of a large stack so I was told to expect another 3 weeks before it makes it to the deputy police chief, at which point I will be called. Update Mar 9, 2017 I had a busy February so didn't have a chance to call again until today. I was initially told that my application is completed to where my card just needed to be typed up and I would be able to pick it up later in the afternoon. Pretty exciting. On the later in the afternoon phone call, I was told that the typed card actually goes back to the detectives, and I then have to wait again for them to call me. The wait continues. Update Mar 22, 2017 Finally got the call from Sgt Mera. Will be picking up my permit tomorrow morning! Update Mar 23, 2017 Got my card after a brief interview with Capt. Iggy Mitolo.
  20. Do you know anyone in a gun friendly state that can hold onto it for him? I know a lot of army guys in the Carolinas who would be interested. PM me what he's thinking price-wise. I'll spread the word and get you in touch if there are any bites.
  21. Very cool and nice score! Looks great in the pic.
  22. I have the performance center 686. Bought after years of loving my dad's 586. I wanted to get something similar but a little different for when we both shoot. Fun gun and crazy accurate. My only complaint is the sights are a bit hard you find when shooting at the typical black silhouette. Anyone have suggestions on this outside nail polish?
