  1. IMO it should be no for the permit. In NJ the permit itself is an administrative challenge to begin with, so to add another layer (and expense) of some kind of safety course would all but halt the process for many people and provide an excuse for LEO's or other "officials" to further hamstring the process. If I owned a public range i would make it mandatory for anyone shooting without an FID to take a brief safety corse and recommend it to new or "comeback" shooters. I started shooting as an adult, so I spent months reading books and watching video tutorials before I pulled the trigger for the first time, and I signed up for a basic handgun course when I purchased my first pistol. When I hit the range for the first time I think I was better prepared than many of the others who were there that day.
  2. Maybe I missed something in the recent wave of new legislation, but why would you stop reloading with HP ammunition?
  3. In Cuomo's mind nobody should have a gun...except the people in his security detail. But that's different...

    Kel-Tec KS7

Good for Kel Tec. I'm a big fan of the KSG, so I'm not surprised they came out with a single stack version. Hopefully they make it out into the wild at some point.
  5. Did you read the original post? Among other things he was charged with "Possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose", "Unlawful Possession of an Assault Rifle", "Pointing a firearm in the direction of a person or property". This wasn't a happy suburban chap who followed the letter of the law his whole life with the exception of this one slip up. It's a thug who didn't legally possess or handle the weapon. It's like you're making a theoretical argument and ignoring the article. I think the opinions are based on the totality of the scenario, so in this case the tattoos are just the icing on the cake.
  6. Nice find! He's a funny guy...
  7. Boo, hoo, hoo. Looks like jumping on the anti-gun bandwagon isn't paying off for Dick's With sales falling after the implementation of corporate gun control Dick’s Sporting Goods may have to close 35 stores across 18 states. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2018/12/11/corporate-gun-control-fail-dicks-may-close-35-stores-across-18-states/?fbclid=IwAR2bnzHx00pZlmhci_sfAFbFs0Wo-U-DRiu1iDXLjkl0jBto7i8ewFSFX2Q
  8. Sorry to hear about this. I was looking at the Tristar over/under last year for the same reasons as you (inexpensive shotgun for clays). 1600 rounds seems like a really low round count for the problems you're experiencing so hopefully they take care of you. Zero response so far isn't good but there are a lot of companies that are just getting back to work today after the holiday break, so fingers crossed that you hear something today. Good luck.
  9. That guy is a fucking moron. Glad nobody got killed...
  10. Guess that means they'll be changing from 9 counts of aggravated assault to 12 counts...
  11. What a dumbass!! He only used NINE rounds so he didn't even need the high capacity assault magazine-clip!!!!!
  12. I agree. I know a couple of older guys who go pistol shooting once or twice a year (they're mainly rifle and shotgun shooters) and they didn't believe me when I told them about the new law. One guy said, "I went shooting last week with my Glock (15 round magazines) and nobody stopped me".
  13. I'm in Morris county so there's really no place close with decent prices. Like others I order from Midsouth Shooters when they have a "no hazmat" deal and I need powder. Otherwise I look for places in PA or Ohio when I'm traveling with family and i stock up as I go.

    Ugly Duckling

Very nice! Yes it is ugly, but I wouldn't pass one up!!
  15. This. Doesn't seem like OP understands how to become a part of new online forums/communities. Kind of waltzed in with an "I'm a douchebag" neon sign over his head...
  16. IT was actually the first thing that came to mind, so i wasn't cherry picking. I could use my google-fu and find more but what's the point? I'm actually over the top "pro LEO", but I posted that to illustrate the point that at the end of the day the police are in a different class than the rest of us regular citizens. They have special rules for themselves, protect each other from being charged with things that the rest of us get charged with, ignore rules/laws that we otherwise have to follow, and they ultimately have a mindset that whatever they do is OK as long as they "get to go back to their families at night". Believe it or not, none of that really bothers me. They have a tough job so I can turn a blind eye to the nonsense, and almost ALL of the LEO's I know wouldn't hesitate to charge into danger for me. THat said, we're crossing into dangerous territory if LEO's would be taking an active role in taking away gun rights from the rest of us. Most times they're a reactive force who comes after shit's gone down, so I'm on the hook to protect me and my family. Hopefully we'll see some Supreme Court challenges that render this discussion moot.
  17. 2013: Man Who Stopped Maksim Gelman Learns Cops Aren’t Obligated To Protect People From Being Stabbed Poor Joseph Lozito. If you don’t remember, Lozito was the man who heroically stopped Maksim Gelman, the murderous, knife-wielding lunatic, by wrestling him to the ground and receiving multiple stab wounds – all while cops looked on and did nothing. As we’ve previously reported, Lozito took his case to court, arguing that officers should have helped him while he made the effort to pin down Gelman, but now the New York Post is reporting that a judge has thrown out the case on the grounds that officers were not obligated to protect Lozito during the fight. Lozito, 42, recognized Gelman, who was on the run for murdering four people around Sheepshead Bay in February 2011, on a subway car and tackled him to the ground. In the scuffle, Lozito suffered seven stab wounds mainly to the back of the head and face. According to Lozito’s account, two police officers, Terrance Howell and Tamara Taylor, did nothing until Lozito managed to pin Gelman to the ground, instead taking cover in the adjacent operator’s cab. https://bklyner.com/judge-rules-that-cops-arent-obligated-to-protect-people-being-stabbed-in-plain-sight-sheepshead-bay/ Both cops received commendations.
  18. I was REALLY tempted to pick one up in 300 Win Mag. inexpensive way to get into a new caliber...
  19. Looks like they had their Grand Opening today. Good luck to them!
  20. "Hours after he and another inmate escaped jail after beating up a security guard, a South Carolina inmate was fatally shot after he broke into a woman’s house, officials said. Bruce McLaughlin Jr., 30, was shot in the head by the woman after he kicked in her back door on Tuesday, according to Pickens County authorities."
  21. I agree with this. IMO the mag ban is a shining example of feel-good legislation that career politicians jam through the system so they can say they "did something" about an issue when it's time for reelection.
