American Bald Eagle sighting

Recommended Posts

We saw one this morning in Brick. He cruised by 100' away, 20' high. Took a fish 9" long without a splash from Forge Pond. He had a 6' wingspan. I thought I saw a pair two weeks ago, eating something on the ice so there must be a pair.

I bet that wingspan would have looked greater if he was on the ground near you ;)

Nice report. I haven't seen one in years. Even though I am close to Hawk Mountain. I've never even stopped by.

They seem to be more abundant the farther north you go.

I frequently backpack northern NJ and eastern PA and even on a day hike, you will likely see at least one or two peacefully gliding around the ridges looking for a meal.

Even near my area at Round Valley, there are a few nests.

We kayak in Forge Pond, going to have ot keep an eye out next summer. We have them in Howell at the Resevoir and I have seen them fly over my house. Merril Creek Resevoir has a bunch of them. Nesting platforms, hiking trail and viewing areas. Great nature center too.
