Thanks, the Lake Island Rifle & Pistol Club seems to be interesting to me, the distance is not bad, and fee is just $60 per year? Anyone know how are their indoor facilities and their hours of operation for the indoor range? Thanks.

Short answer is No there isn't. It's a two-county ride North to Belleville or South to Lakewood.

 

How often (and what disciplines) do you want to shoot & how far are you willing to travel & how much are you willing to pay?? Reason being there are a few private clubs in the area, and they each have good things going for them, but they all cost some coin to join. Not all disciplines (rifle, pistol, shotgun) are available at every Range, so that could affect a recommendation.

I want to shoot both pistols and rifles, pistols up to .45acp, rifiles up to 308win, about once a month, 1-2 hours each time. I hate traveling far, anywhere above 40 minute travel time would be very unattractive to me.

Lake Island is only 25 yards long. A little "short" for a .308

 

Somerset Fish & Game has an underground tunnel that's 100 yards long as well as a nice indoor 25 yard range.

Otherwise, you need to get a membership.

 

Closest public range to you would be the bullet hole up in Belleville.

Lets see, IIRC rays was $12 an hour before it closed for pistol and rimfire indoors.

 

2 hours a month would have been $288. Consider joining one of the local clubs, it'll cost the initiation fee above and beyond that, but you will get more facilities than any pay by the hour range for a similar price.
