zoid 24 Posted December 6, 2011 I've been told that the smoke/fumes from lead bullets is harmful to your health which I'm sure it is. Some guys I know actually where a mask when shooting indoors. Anyone know what level of lead exposure inhalation is dangerous in regard to shooting? Anyone take precautions like wearing a mask, etc?
Rifleman1 32 Posted December 6, 2011 No mask. I do wear a cap while shooting and wash up at the bathroom before I leave the range to minimize lead absorption through the skin. We wear full hazmat body suits, goggles and masks when cleaning out the range backstop.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted December 6, 2011 I shoot and reload lead indoors all the time. I have my lead levels checked and they are fine. Just dont eat it and you are fine. Wash your hands after handling and you are good to go. It wont absorb through your skin, but if it you leave it on your hands and you start touching stuff and then touching your face you are eating it... and so is everybody else who touched what you touched. Ryan626 5 Posted December 6, 2011 I could be wrong but most of the smoke out of lead bullets are from the wax in the bullet and the smoke is not actually lead. It's the wax or the powder which is smokey.
Maksim 1,504 Posted December 6, 2011 I don't shoot indoors. Don't shoot Lead. However, it is only minimal exposure. The worst is if you cast your own bullets. Shooting it aint bad. Wash your hands, and wash your clothes after going to the range. That is where you get in trouble.
PeteF 1,044 Posted December 6, 2011 Like others have said it's not bad if you take precautions. Wash up after shooting, reloading or even handling tumbled brass.
