jptsr1 0 Posted February 17, 2012 So I'm moving to NJ from California and I'm trying to figure something out. I've done a search but can't seem to find an answer to my specific question here on the forum. Since I am limited by the airlines to 33lbs of ammunition I thought about shipping the rest of my stash to myself in NJ. So the plan is to ship it UPS a couple days before I fly out and then receive it at my new place in NJ. Anyone see any issues?
jptsr1 0 Posted February 17, 2012 Nope Didnt seem like it would be from the literature. Guess I'm just being paranoid. So much has changed since I lived there last. Thanks for the reply.
hd2000fxdl 422 Posted February 17, 2012 For the cost and to avoid the hassle of bringing any on the airlines, unless you are also transporting your firearms than it no extra hassle. For the shipping it to yourself, find the best price on either FedEx or UPS and just let them know what it is, they will put a ORM-D sticker on it and ship it by ground. Harry Yeah, the first 33lbs is sunk cost since we are flying anyway. US Air allows11lbs per passenger so both to save some on shipping and to avoid detox from not being able to shoot while I wait for my shipment I'll just bring some with me. I'll check that and the guns. As long as it dosen't push our bags overweight there shouldn't be any extra cost. Thanks.
PK90 3,573 Posted February 17, 2012 Double or triple pack your cases up to 70 pounds. It'll be cheaper to ship. You also can hand write "ORM-D" on the box in block letters.
jptsr1 0 Posted October 7, 2012 just in case anyone searches this topic and winds up reading this thread, the process was painless and the shipment arrived undamaged. curious that they make such a big deal out of the packaging an labeling and then just leave the box in front of my garage? none the less they delivered it, no problem. mipafox 438 Posted October 7, 2012 Because the packaging and labeling has nothing to do with controlling access to ammo. It has to do with "Other Regulated Materials" - it's about shipping regulations for safety, response to accidents, etc. Same reason they put placards of trucks carrying flammable chemicals. Maksim 1,504 Posted October 8, 2012 On a side note, I don't think airlines really enforce the 11 lbs of ammo. For nationals last year to Vegas, flew with about 25 or 30 lbs of ammo. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
