Springfield TRP Question

Recommended Posts

I don't own a TRP, but I have a couple other 1911's in .45 ACP and the Wilsons have always worked for me. Last go round I bought some Chip McCormicks and they seem to be working fine also.

Mine uses Chip McCormicks, Wilson Combat, Kimber pro mags, Sig 1911 mags and Ed Brown. All work great. Mec-Gar (8 and 10 rounders), Chip McCormick 10 rounders don't work due to the magwell on the TRP being too long.

Did you file down the plastic on the magazine? They wouldn't set in the magwell.

I have run the Chip McCormick Shooting Star classics out of my Kimber Custom II and have had 0 issues. I also bought 10 of the cheap mags and have had 0 issues soo far with about 300 rounds down the tube.

explain that?

I have had no problems with them, when I first got them i had to pop em in a little harder then the SA mags, now they just slide in no problems. The 10 rd mags do stick out a bit from the grip but they work great.

I have a Wilson Combat 10 rounder if you want to trade for an 8 rounder if you want.

OK, I see now. The 500 series are their new ETM's (Elite Tactical Magazine). The ETM's have the witness slot further back on the magazine body. This is supposed to impart greater rigidity to the body of the mag. The 47 series mags have the slot on the vertical midline.

As for the various versions within the 500 family, it has to do with which base plate you want. A steel base would certainly help with free mag drop, but may be harder on the body of the mag (when it hits the ground). A polymer base absorbs some of that shock (and is prone to breakage - I keep spares), but adds little weight to help the mag drop free.
