Are there any non-membership outdoor ranges in/near NJ?

Recommended Posts

I'd really like to shoot outdoors now that the weather is getting nicer, but I don't shoot often enough (yet) to justify a membership at any of the membership ranges such as Cherry Ridge. I know I know... the correct answer to this question is "start shooting more and get a membership," but until that is financially feasible are there any other outdoor options? I know I can be guested by a member into most of the private ranges for a fee but are there other outdoor options?

Sunset Hill range is where I started out. Costs you $35 the first day, $25 for a safety briefing, $10 range rental. More if you use a pulley bay, shoot skeet, or rent their guns. Once you have that briefing, you are good for a year, and subsequent visits are $10 (or more). If they aren't busy, that $10 can be an all day thing. I never went weekends, but it's usually crowded I am told. Very new guy friendly, as that's their bread n butter... If you rent their guns, you gotta buy their ammo, and I feel $5 for 10rds of .22LR is a tad steep...but whatever. Range is only 35yds, so don't go expecting long range stuff... I do love the reactive targets and have spent days there just taking the hanging wood blocks apart, piece by piece, until there's none left, and then moving to the next block. http://sunsethill.slvrcreek.com/home.htm

After 'graduating' from Sunset Hill, I went looking for a place I could go that was closer and had a longer-range range. Easton Fish and Game Association is $60 for the first year, $30 per year after that. I joined late last month, going for my 3rd time today. Great place to join once you have a little background in shooting. www.efga.net

Based on your username, either one may be close...ish.... to you (Sunset is a little north of 80, Easton right near 78). Just remember to factor in range fees, gas, and $1 toll for either range, vs what say Cherry Ridge range fees would cost initially plus gas savings.

i didnt know that im a vet wonder how much it is i must inquire

He actually said it wrong. It's $30 for Active Duty, Military Reservist, Retired Military/Disabled Veterans, DoD Civilian Employee, National Guard, NSSA Member, Active Duty Police Officer, McGuire Dix Hunting/Fishing Permit Holder. So if you're a veteran that separated/ETSed, like me, and didn't retire, then it's still $60.
