petros600 12 Posted March 14, 2012 Nice, I bet we will get Russian sks for $199 (similar to the Canadian prices)http://www.leverarms.com/russian-simonov-sks-45.html SVT's for $299 http://frontierfirearms.ca/index.php/firearms/surplus-rifles/russian-svt-40-2-port-muzzle-break.html Now if we allowed to get from China some stuff will be great-->http://www.marstar.ca/main/images/$75-SkS.jpg

I'll take one. Now to figure out how to buy one from Kanada. Apparently visitors/non-citizens can apply for a 5 year PAL (possession and application license) that would enable you to purchase and register guns in Canada. The process looks like it will take a week long vacation in Canada. Then to figure out how to legally take it back into the USA, I'm sure there's a way. echo five foxtrot 1 Posted May 23, 2012 or they could just chop them up: http://www.shotgunnews.com/2012/04/26/russia-to-destroy-4-million-guns/ Maybe import them to Trenton for Shoprite gust cards at $100 a pop
Kaiser7 33 Posted May 23, 2012 If this is the case, expect me to brag about my new SKS and SVT-40 three years from now. The main reason I went with the AR over an SKS was 1) Stripper clips, and 2) Many SKSes I saw were $400, or too far away for me to be interested in picking them up. for $400, I figured I may as well spend the additional $250 and build an AR that is exactly what I want. As for destroying the rifles, I doubt they would destroy any really nice ones. There would be more money to be made shipping them over here, or selling them to other, poorer, nations for their militaries. I would think they'd only destroy ones that are not otherwise serviceable, or are in rough shape.
BMWR12 35 Posted May 23, 2012 I don't see it happening anymore. Things have changed. The imports are just about gone. No more PPSH 41 kits,K98s,Mosin carbines,SVT's,SKS's, 7.62x25 ammo.

I would think they'd only destroy ones that are not otherwise serviceable, or are in rough shape. Keep in mind that you're talking about the Soviet Union here. For more than 70 years they functioned under a communist command economy. What makes logical financial sense to us, as Westerners trained from birth to understand and function within the capitalist market system, they cannot even comprehend. Also, do not underestimate local market demands. If Russian markets demand scrap steel, you bet that such demand will be met by any means necessary. If it means melting down millions of obsolete rifles, so be it. It is probably easier to convert such inventory to liquid assets that way, versus trying to export these rifles to foreign countries, after you factor in the time and money required to facilitate such actions.
