Wilson Shok-Buff® Recoil Buffers, 1911, any good?

Recommended Posts

I've used them in mine for years. No probs. didn't notice any diff in accuracy and whatnot. Def cuts down on the slamming.

For a range/competition gun they are OK. Just remember to change them regularly. Do not use them in a gun on which you may stake your life. They do deteriorate over time and use and can come apart at the most inopportune time. Happens during a match you drop a lot of points - happens when things go bump in the night and you may lose more than points.

Adios,

I agree with Bob & Nick! I use them for competition guns.

They do become worn-out, especially after repeated exposure to some gun cleaners, especially those like Shooter's Choice which will melt plastic shotgun wad fouling. Shock-Buffs are made of a plastic, and will be adversely affected by Shooters Choice. Don't ask me how I know this :icon_redface::icon_eek::icon_rolleyes:

There are a bunch of buffers out there. Wilson's shock buffs would be my second to last choice.

Any of the buffers that look like die cut reinforced white or gray nylon are worlds better. They will last thousands of rounds if you keep the aggressive solvents away from them.

Anyone try the aluminum shok-buffs? Can't imagine the dampen better than the plastic buffs.

Also, I read that the thicker ones prevent slide lock and/or slide lock reloads. Any truth to this?

Depends on the gun. I used the buffer technologies ones as well as a brand no longer available on my trp operator with zero issues over about 14,000 rounds.
