Lecky 1 Posted November 27, 2012 Hi all, can anyone recommend a good scope for around $150? Or maybe a scope red dot combo scope? Thanks
TheWombat 67 Posted November 27, 2012 Primary Arms have a good reputation at that price bracket. TheWombat
when_shtf 4 Posted November 27, 2012 I really like my Optisan 1-4x24 (including mount) @ $149. There are better scopes out there, but not for the money.
Lecky 1 Posted November 27, 2012 That looks like a nice scope, I was looking at the primary arms scope and when I called to ask how long it would be back ordered the guy started laughing at me.
Scrap 4 Posted November 27, 2012 Nikon P-223 3x32mm BDC Reticle... http://www.nikonhunting.com/products/riflescopes/p-223/3x32_BDC_Carbine You can find this for like $149.99-ish, and it even included a mount when it first came out (not sure now). You *cannot* find better glass for the money than Nikon

reloaderguy 30 Posted November 27, 2012 My friend just bought the Nikon M-308 which came with mount. He hates it! When you crank it up to 16 power. No eye relief!
when_shtf 4 Posted November 27, 2012 Lecky, The P-223 is a 3-9x40 scope. You said your are looking for a scope that can be used as a red-dot AND provide magnification. The typical scope for this is a 1-4. With the scope dialed back to 1.0, you can keep both eyes open. With a retical that is lit, you essentially have a red-dot. A 4.0 magnification is good to about 100 yards. The 3-9 would be a great unit from 50 to 200 yards, but not good at all at close range or indoors. You can checkout my Optisan at 4.0 mag in this thread: http://njgunforums.c...150#entry461150

Did you have to remove your front sight or did you purchase the upper without it? http://njgunforums.c...150#entry461150
when_shtf 4 Posted November 28, 2012 I purchased the upper without the forward sight (standard Stag3 upper).
Scrap 4 Posted November 29, 2012 When_Shtf you gotta do a little more research, while there is in fact a 3-9 P223, the scope I showed was actually a 3X fixed scope with a 32mm aperature. With a BDC reticle actually. Now I don't know about the M-308 not having eye relief, I just got my Monarch 5-20x44mm today and while I agree the picture changes as you increase the magnification , it has like 4 " eye relief and its all good for me. TheLugNutZ 21 Posted November 29, 2012 For an inexpensive red dot with GREAT reviews, look at the vortex SPARC. I have one and am very happy with it. There was a few threads going around the net about guys that did various reliability tests under different conditions and it performed very well. I wouldn't use a 3x as a red-dot. It has poor close range capability. There are dozens of 1-4.0's on the market and I can think of 4 right off the top of my head that meet the OP's criteria. DbleTrouble 8 Posted November 29, 2012 If you are looking for a cheap red dot I heard good things about the vortex. I use an aimpoint pro and have no complaints but it was a little more expensive.
scatterbrains 0 Posted November 29, 2012 def look at the vortex line, the sparc and the strikefire for a little more $$
