chris327 30 Posted January 13, 2013 Buyers beware there is no backup key. If electronics fail you cannot open it.
Blueskybob 12 Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks David8613 Looked at it, but reviews say it has no backup key if the electronics go south. The next model up for $59,04 is said to have an external 9volt battery hookup as a backup. Wonder if this one has the same backup? The Stack-On PDS-500 Drawer Safe with Electronic Lock on Amazon $39.97 has a key backup. But then you could lose the key too!

david8613 69 Posted January 14, 2013 I purchased this and received it last Friday and it does have 9volt back up access, I tested it, it works fine. playing with it all weekend, for 37.00 bucks it's not bad at all, it works for keeping kids out and of course keeping it hidden from thieves... pretty heavy gauge metal, very flat with plenty room for gun and mags, and little flash light... the only thing I wish it had more protection in the interior to avoid scratching the weapon, guess Ill use a holster... AnthonyG 36 Posted January 14, 2013 I own this safe as well and for the most part stopped using it, main reason is I didn't like the lack of support for a handgun there is minimal padding and the gun just lays in their lop-siding and I could never get the backup battery to work. I spend the 114 dollars for the speed vault gun safe that drops down with the gun ready to go,and I personally think it is the best "stand ready" handgun safe out there. david8613 69 Posted January 14, 2013 I have the speed vault also and I love that thing but it is kind of big and no real space for mags and light. this homak is working fine for me right now I'll keep playing with it to make sure I dont run into problems. 71ragtopgoat 23 Posted January 14, 2013 For my money you cant beat the V line safe. Not fancy but it just plain works. Plus I keep a 1911 in mine with room for a spare Mag and a light. http://www.amazon.co...VKVA4H2GF621Z2P
david8613 69 Posted January 14, 2013 One negative its a little small, it fits a revolver, and xd subcompact fine but if you wanna use it with something bigger like a sig226, fnp45 or glock 20 its a no go, i have the same problem with my speed vault... reduck 0 Posted January 14, 2013 I like this one best. Lid pops open when correct combination is entered and its silent.
chris327 30 Posted January 14, 2013 i have the speed vault and i like it. It is pretty secure for a quick access safe. and is near silent. Only problem is no extra mags or flashlight. but i keep a few lights near the safe. If you need extra mags your screwed. But ill take my chances with 15 rounds for quick access. Krdshrk 3,878 Posted January 14, 2013 I'd say pass on it too. Barska Biometric or Speedvault...
chris327 30 Posted January 14, 2013 the barska is nice but i didnt like the older model had the beep noise i think they changed that now but not sure and its a bit of a big safe for quick access. the speed vault is nice size.
AnthonyG 36 Posted January 15, 2013 That v-line safe is similar to the one I have at my desk, those safes are great for a desk or counters but did not have the space on my night stand for that. That is why i went with speed vault for in the bed room.
