How about all of the Russian type ammo that was coming in? Have the imports stopped or is their production still going?

 

Yeah, companies like Wolf and Tulammo could probably ease the shortage if THEY started producing at max capacity.

 

In fact, pretty much any ammo producing company in the world should be considering stepping up and filling the demand, at this rate people will probably buy whatever they can get.

I was thinking same thing but now the freeking components are hard to find..this really does blow..well with 500 billion in defense cuts coming maybe some more of that Lake City stuff hits the civvy market

Not so much... All the big overseas players have, but still have to deal with general shortage of material and delays associated with shipping and customs.

 

FNH has been spitting brass out like mad for 5.7x28 and Fiocchi finishing it as quickly as possible, but won't see any on US soil till April per FNH...

9 month ammo shortage..maybe those who have 15,000 of each caliber can maybe take a little break from buying..

 

Lol I know guy's out west who have 4x's that ammout and have not purchased ammo in years and they still arent.

15K seems extreem for NJ but for a texan gun nut 15k rounds is a good start.

Not sure Im buying this, why would the russians or anyone for that matter, increase export civilian production, use more man hours and use up more materials only too sell at the same low price? I guess they like the loose/loose method of running a business.

Because it's about capturing market-share. People who would typically thumb their nose at Russian ammo now have incentive to purchase it, either because it's cheaper, or it's the only stuff they can get. No matter your opinion on certain types or manufacturers of ammunition, shortages like this tend to make people more open-minded. Even if it's not as reliable or accurate, it's better to have some ammo than none. After all, even if a certain type of ammo had as high as a 50% failure rate, you're still shooting more ammo than if you have none. (Maybe not the best example, but I think the overall idea is clear).

 

If the people who previously would never consider Russian ammo find that it's not as bad as they anticipated, they may continue using it even after the panic prices subside, particularly if they find that the performance vs. price is satisfactory. After all, if you're just getting some rough practice in, not working towards competition, the cheaper ammo is probably fine.

 

Hell, even people with stockpiles of Federal, Lake City, PMC, etc. would be enticed to buy the Russian stuff. If you have the good ammo for defense, but want to keep your skills sharp, why waste the good stuff? Practice with the steel-cased, somewhat dirtier (Though I believe brownbear is the dirtiest, according to a Luckygunner study) ammo. When it's just practice, you're mainly just working on quick target acquisition, muscle memory, weak-side transitions, reloading, and stuff like that. You'll still be able to take it home, and give it a really good cleaning, or fix any FTFs, or hangfires on the range, where it's not as big a deal.

Im a fan of the steel cased ammo so I didnt consider this.

If and when you can find it the prices have only gone up a bit as opposed to American brass.

I'm still going to believe in the idea that market forces are going to fix this issue. I'll be waiting AND watching carefully.
