Assemblywoman McHose on NJTV(PBS) this morning

Recommended Posts

I wish she had the numbers from the State Police UCR when he asked about whether we have a crime problem in our cities. We absolutely do! Direct from the report (my emphasis added):

• Six major urban centers—Camden, Newark, Jersey City, Trenton, Paterson and Elizabeth—collectively represent 11 percent

of New Jersey’s total population. These same urban centers, during the period 2002 through 2011 accounted for 21 percent

of the state’s total crime.

“Major Urban” centers from 2002 through 2011 accounted for 42 percent of all violent crime and 18 percent of the

nonviolent crimes in the entire state.

The 15 urban municipalities represent 18 percent of the state’s total population.

• “Urban 15” municipalities accounted for 30 percent of New Jersey’s total Crime Index. Violent crime was 53 percent of the

state total, while nonviolent crime was 27 percent of the state total during this ten-year period.

Sixty-six percent of all reported murders occurred in the “Urban 15” cities during this ten-year period.

Note: the "Urban 15" include Bayonne City, Elizabeth City, Paterson City, Camden City, Irvington Town, Trenton City, Clifton City, Jersey City, Union City, Toms River Twp., Newark City, Vineland City, East Orange City, Passaic City, and Woodbridge Twp.

You know I was thinking the same thing.

Blood flows in Camden, Newark, Paterson etc...In fact Paterson had (has?) a curfew because it is so bad. The schools in those inner cities are rough like Rahway State Prison... But you don't hear much about those places. It's only when "innocent little kids" (translation: white kids in suburbia) in places like Newtown and Columbine are killed that people perk up and pay attention and demand that "something be done NOW!!!"

To quote the poet Eminem:

When a dude's gettin bullied and shoots up his school

And they blame it on Marilyn (on Marilyn)... and the heroin

Where were the parents at? And look where it's at

Middle America, now it's a tragedy

Now it's so sad to see, an upper class ci-ty

Havin this happenin (this happenin)...
