What to choose?

Recommended Posts

I was looking at the same thing. Right now I am leaning towards the Glock27. Reasons, more options for aftermarket upgrades and conversions, larger magazine capacity, better trigger. I like Rugers, but in this category I have to go with Glock.

Glock. (and I'm big Ruger fan).

A. Size: Unless you want to pocket carry in basketball shorts, the G27 isn't all that much bigger than the LC9 and the weight difference is about 4 1/2 oz.

B. Firepower: For the extra weight and thickness of the Glock, you're also gaining 2 more rounds. Of .40

C. Function: From everything I've read/seen, the Ruger is less 'refined' and has a loooooong trigger pull. As in you'll almost be against the rear of the trigger guard before it breaks. And the reset is just as long. That's if it resets (commonly reported problem).

D. Sights: As much as people complain about the sights on Glocks, the LC9 is no slouch in the sucky sights department. Of course, a laser mitigates some of that, but laser or not, sight picture matters.

E. Safeties: What's that you say? Safeties? Plural? On a small carry gun? Yup. In addition to the (doesn't really bother me) loaded chamber indicator, the LC9 has a (tiny) thumb safety and a mag disconnect safety.

F. Not that you'll actually be changing magazines, because NIB, Ruger gives you one magazine. One. (vs three on gen 4 Glocks)

G. Price: Normally this would go the other way, but since it sounds like it's coming from freebieland, the Glock is the higher dollar value gun.

H. Manual of arms: You own a Glock and hence are familiar with the way they run. By all accounts the LC9 takes some getting used to, even as compared to other guns one may never have used before.

Overall, for a usefully chambered ccw gun (ie > .380 ACP), the Block* 27 has it all over the Ruger (except for looks, of course, but that's just a given).

*not a typo.

This is not to say the LC9 is sucks. On the contrary, it seems like a good gun for what it's supposed to do. But it's not really in the same category as the G27.

Just my opinon....
