Single action revolver how to lock the action open?

I shoot at Cherry Ridge, and it's an outdoor range so I need to lock the action open in any gun I use (except muzzleloaders) and put a safety flag when I do a target change.

 

How do you lock the action open to do that in a single action revolver like the Chiappa SAA 1873?

open the loading port and put a flag in it? 

 

It'd probably be best to consult with the saftey officers at the club to see what they want you to do.

They may require you to pull the base pin out and remove the cylinder.

Open the loading gate and place the flag through the exposed cylinder chamber.

 

(Unless the RO doesn't know what a single action revolver is and wants to go batshit crazy because you didn't open it properly.)
