Out of state handgun purchase

I am looking to buy a handgun from a friend of mine in Texas. Neither one of us has done this before, so can someone explain what we have to do?

 

I know I need a pistol permit, but does he need to provide i.d. when he sends it? Should his i.d. be a drivers license or passport?

He needs to ship to FFL up here and the FFL will then transfer to you. If your FFL doesn't accept private guns, he might have to use and FFL as well. Of course the gun needs to be NJ compliant.

Your FFL will instruct you on what he needs.

He needs to if your FFL here will accept the gun here. Your FFL has to log where he got the gun from.

 

If a FFL in TX sends ir the FFL here can use the FFL in TX as source of the gun.

 

Copy of drivers licence is best. Passport doesn't have his address.

It depends upon the receiving FFL as to weather or not he (FFL) will accept

a transfer from a private citizen.
