Groupon deal on shooting simulation event

Recommended Posts

Firearms Support and Storage in Whippany has a half-price deal on Groupon, $39 for an hour for two people.  Their description:

"An interactive, theatre-style simulator grants patrons a chance to face down villains of the Old West or zombies searching for a human snack"

Standard disclaimer:  I'm not affiliated with Firearms Support and Storage…have never been there, but was surprised to learn it's close by.  I just thought it was interesting to see this come up on Groupon.

Even more interesting, their website notes they are hosting a singles night (with simulated shooting) on Valentine's Day, and a Speed Dating event (with simulated shooting) the day after.   I've not seen that kind of marketing from a range before…    One wonders how many women they'll manage to get attending.

Humm, looks like it could be fun. Something that the wife and I could enjoy together. Here is a link for the website. If the video looks anything like what you experience then it will be a good time.

How soon people forget, that back in January of 2013 Groupon threw all gun-related offers under the bus and canceled all such activites. Now they've come back to the flock for more fleecing? No thanks.

I'd rather go to FS&S and just flat out ask them for the hour @ $40 in their pocket instead of getting the groupon. Hell they'll pocket more money that way anyways.

Interesting, I guess it's been happening for a while:

I don't know if it was regret over unwarranted demonization of the gun industry, or things are getting tough and they need to make a buck even if it means compromising their "values". While I didn't care for their decision, I think groupon and living social are the best ways to introduce new people to gun ownership given their wide reach.

Has anyone done this here? Was it worth going to?

I took GunForHire's Utah CCW at FSS in Whippany and while we were waiting for the class to start they gave us demonstrations of the system (and also let some of the people try it).

It's pretty damn cool.  They have 100's of scenarios, and they can go different ways depending on what you do and what the operator does.  For example, you are staring down bad guys and all of a sudden a cop comes around the corner and tells you to drop it.  You can either drop it and not get shot, or argue with the cop (in which case you might get shot), or shoot at the cop (in which case you've lost, and also probably will be shot).  The guns are real guns modified (with lasers for the tracking, and CO2 carts for a little recoil).

I think it would be a fun event.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
